Old Town Orlando Days Inn
 

Thinking about meeting some friends who will be campong near Old Town.

Anyone familiar with this area? What is ther to do? How is the hotel?

Old Town Orlando? Is this a joke? The oldest part of Orlando would definitely be in the downtown or near lake Eola or thereabouts. There are older parts of town but I've never heard anybody refer to an Old Town. What other information do you have about this?

TanodooriGirl--You obviously are not familiar with the Orlando/Kissimmee area. Plmrod knew exactly what she was asking. If you are not familiar with whats being asked maybe you should not respond. PLMROD old town is actually a little area about 5 blocks long. There are shops bars and places to eat in those 5 blocks. You can even go in get yourself a drink from the general store or bar and walk around with it. They also have carnival rides & games. Old town has the largest skyscreamer in the US.It's a cool place to visit. There is a pizza place there called Flippers and they have great pizza. Dont eat at the oriental place the food is horrible.They also have classic car shows there every fri and sat. night. Cant help you out on the Hotel never stayed there. However there is a Holiday Inn right next door. That was fairly nice. Have a great time.

But andyg, I want to know more. You are right, I shouldn't respond. But now that I have, and showed how little I know, how about some more info for one who wants to know? Where is Old Town Orlando? Is it in Kissimmee?

It's not "old" as in St. Augustine or San Diego.

If I'm thinking of the right place, it's an amusement park area with old-fashioned carnival rides and games. I believe it's right on Rt. 192 (?), one of those main undivided highways with all the strip malls and discount stores. It's actually a short drive from the Gaylord Palms, which might be fun to visit for a HUGE breakfast buffet in a cool atmosphere.

PLM, will you have a car? If so, you could probably do better booking through Priceline. You could probably get a nicer hotel at the same price as DaysInn. Just check carefully to see what "area" it's in, and read Biddingfortravel.com for info first.

The classic car show on the weekends is great, you will see so many different classics, it's a blast...my parents have stayed at the park behind Old Town and we would walk up there to mill around, people watch and take photos of the cars...it's fun...

The reason we are interested in the Days Inn at Old Town, is apparently it is rght across the street from the campground (Tropical Palms, I believe) and since it will only be for one night, we want to be close to our friends.

It's in Kissimmee (west side), on 192. A tourist destination, with shops, rides, an old-timey feel. www.old-town.com

Old Town is very popular, especailly w/foreign tourists. We went on a Saturday night for the car show last April. It was a very cool car show, they parade the classic cars through the street (which is a pedestrian street at other times). Be forwarned though-- as one poster mentioned, you can buy a beer or drink from a window or shop and walk around w/it. This is the only place I've ever been that reminded me of the French Quarter in New Orleans in that way. By the end of the car show, we were ready to get ourselves and our pre-teen kids out of that atmosphere. It got somewhat rowdy w/the open drinking.
