Old Salem

My husband and I recently stopped in Old Salem on our way from Charlotte, NC to Charlottesville, VA. I couldn't find much information on this living museum but we really enjoyed it. In November, it wasn't very crowded and we walked from building to building talking to the various docents and learning about life in the community. It was well worth the time. Afterwards, we chose a restaurant out of the AAA guidebook and had a tasty dinner at Paul's Fine Italian in Winston-Salem.

How nice to read a report from a visitor to Old Salem. It is certainly one of the top attractions in the state and I am delighted you found it. For information about Old Salem check out the website www.oldsalem.org Christmas season is a fantastic time to visit. The Home Moravian church on the Salem Square will be hosting Candle Tea (www.candletea.org) and many other events featuring the unique qualities of the church will be held

There are some excellent restaurants and the area is a first rate arts venue. Please come back soon!

My mother is from Winston Salem. I wished she knew how to make the cookies!

No one does them better than Mrs. Hanes and she is now on line. My favorite is the black walnut, but they are all pretty good.

Have you ever tried the sugar cake?

Next time try Meridian, right there in Old Salem, across the parking lot from the Brookstown Inn. It is the best restaurant in W-S, convenient location to Old Salem, our favorite place to eat since it opened over a year ago. Enjoy.
