Old Faithful Inn or new Snow Lodge???

My husband & I are planning a trip to Yellowstone & am wondering where to stay-been doing a lot of research but am debating on these two choices in the Geyser area..Also would appreciate recommendations for other areas of the park. Probaly will be in Yellowstone about 5 or 6 days-then traveling to the Tetons. This is our 1st visit to this area & would welcome any suggestions. Thanks, Vicki

We stayed at the Old Faithful Inn in '94 and it was very nice. Lots of geysers around that area. We also stayed at Grant Village (decent-nothing fancy) on Yellowstone Lake. I don't remember what area the Snow Lodge is in but Old Faithful Inn is pretty centrally located. You can drive up and spend a day each in the area of the waterfalls (canyon area) and Mammoth Hot Springs. It's the best vacation we've taken. Jackson Lake Lodge in the Tetons is very nice.

My vote would be for the new Snow Lodge.
It is near Old Faithful, which is not the only geyser in town!!
But, depending on when you expect to go, you may not have a choice.
Both the older lodge and the new facility are just about sold out for the summer.

I stayed 2 nights at Old Faithful Inn last October. Whether or not you stay there, you have to see the lobby. I also think it would be nice to see Old Faithful from the second floor balcony (unfortunately it was icy and closed when I was there). I thought the room was rather pretty - it was much nicer than what I was expecting (but really how much time are you in the room - there's just too much to see!). We ate dinner one night at the Snow Lodge. The Snow Lodge lobby is my idea of what a nice ski lodge would be like (I've never been to a ski lodge). The wood is really pretty and there's lots of sitting areas. Have no idea what the rooms would be like. Just for the history, I'd stay at Old Faithful but I don't think you can go wrong with either. It's only about a 5 minute walk from one to the other.

My daughter and I just finished our Yellowstone scrapbook, so the details of our trip there last August (in the midst of those terrible forest fires) is fresh in my mind. We stayed at the Yellowstone Lake hotel, which was lovely and the most elegant thing in the park; however we really loved the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. The rooms were clean and big, the common areas are beautifully decorated in a kind of Mission style/Southwest theme, and there are restaurants and snack bars in the building itself. We went over to the historical Old Faithful Inn and found it felt rather dated and the dining room was unimpressive and food mediocre. Let me know if you have any other questions---DN

Either one is a good choice. The Snow lodge is new and very nice the Inn historic. Both are in the same area. I agree with Jill, ou have to see the interior of the Old Faithful Inn. Maybe have dinner there, be sure to get reservations for dinner before you leave home. We also like the Lake Hotel area and restaurant.
Tony
