Oklahoma City to El Paso

Hello all!
I’m heading from Oklahoma City to El Paso tomorrow. My gps gives me two options that it says are equivalent. The first is I40 west to NM 54. Has anyone ever driven NM 54 in December? I have concerns about winter.

The second is I44 to Wichita Falls, then us277 to tx92 to tx70 to I20. On this route my concerns are speed limits off the highway.

Thanks!

If you go with the second (southern) route, stay on 277 into Abilene and take I-20 and I-10 into El Paso.

Google maps says the southern route is 14 minutes faster.

TX92 and TX70 are fairly short segments, I wouldn't worry about having a lower speed limit.
