OK. I'm going to snap . . .

. . . if someone breaks into another long, interesting thread that has strayed from travel only to post "What does this have to do with travel?" <BR> <BR>Some people, including me, enjoy the wild directions many threads seem to take, so long as folks aren't terribly rude. The people on this board are smart and interesting, and when they debate something, it is enjoyable to read, even if it is a little off the subject. If the title of a thread appears not to have anything to do with travel (as some people narrowly define it), then why do they click on it, read it, and post? If they do all of that and feel compelled to post, can they post something pertinent that brings things back to travel rather than just heckling? <BR> <BR>Can you "what does this have to do with travel" guys please stop doing that? Please? Pretty please?

Linda Jul 7th, 2000 03:16 PM

Anxiously waiting to hear that snap, Please.

Esme Jul 8th, 2000 02:06 AM

I LOVE FODORS the travel questions - and answers are great, interesting, helpful etc. but when, yet again, I haven't any e-mails, the phone won't ring (cos I'm on the net!!??) I beam in here to you lot and have fun picking up the "odd" threads, maybe trying to answer a few (like this) but enjoy being amongst you all and perhaps having a bit to contribute as well. Keep going everyone - some one out here loves you!!! Es

Christine Jul 8th, 2000 02:53 AM

I am perplexed by these people who like to whine a thread "isn't about travel"-appointing themselves the monitors of the Fodors Forum. If you don't like a thread-don't read it and for heaven's sake don't respond. Sure, some of the threads do digress a bit (ok a lot)-but some people enjoy it. Most of these threads are harmless and it is interesting to read the debate. I hate it though when attacks become "personal". <BR> <BR>My view is that this is Fodor's Forum and they are the only ones with the right to monitor and will remove anything they deem inappropriate. So don't condemn the rest of us for not fitting into your narrow idea of what this forum should be-read and respond to what interests you.

nancy Jul 8th, 2000 05:36 AM

Please, <BR>Please don't snap! <BR>I agree with you, and the rest of the posters. <BR>nancy

Noach Jul 8th, 2000 07:14 AM

Just to let you know, this thread isn't about travel and therefore should not have been posted here at Fodors.com. When you clicked onto these boards, you agreed to post only about travel. You should live up to your promises.

Cindy Jul 8th, 2000 07:16 AM

I'll vote against the "What does this . . . " crowd also. Personally, I think if they had something relevant to say, they'd say it. Since they can't join in the debate with anything of substance (or at least something witty), they just try to get in the way. I think anyone should be able to say pretty much anything on this board, so long as their post is not rude, profane or commercial. Keep those interesting threads coming.

stu Jul 8th, 2000 10:30 AM

Isn't all of life a form of travel in which we voyage through an ever-changing landscape and continue on and on, not knowing whether a friend or a sabre-tooth tiger is waiting for us around the next bend? <BR>I'd say, if it has to with life, it has to do with travel. You can't escape, for even after death your soul will travel on.

FraidyCat Jul 8th, 2000 10:45 AM

I hate it when that happens! --- <BR>(the-sabre-tooth-tiger-around-the-corner-thing). <BR>

MM Jul 8th, 2000 10:53 AM

Please and the rest of you-You need to get a LIFE!!! Shut your computer off, go outside and do something productive. And Cindy-it amazes me how much time you post on here with children!!! I should think they would keep you busy enough!!!

cindy Jul 8th, 2000 12:49 PM

I've wondered that about ole Cindy myself. She is all over this board, obviously a stay-at-home mom, but does she really have nothing better to do than park on an internet travel site and post all day every day? Her poor kids are probably being raised by nannies and coaches while she surfs and types all day.

nancy Jul 8th, 2000 02:47 PM

Cindy, <BR>Repeat after me. <BR>I will rise above all this. <BR>I will rise above all this. <BR>"They" are just trying to start another senseless, go-nowhere debate. <BR>Nancy

Cindy Jul 8th, 2000 03:06 PM

Nancy, <BR> <BR>I will rise above all this. <BR> <BR>Thanks.

tiredof Jul 8th, 2000 03:48 PM

Well, I guess we have our answer about Cindy having nothing better to do. <BR> <BR>Guess not.

anon Jul 8th, 2000 04:28 PM

5 or 6 people say what they think, and people pick on cindy? this is so dumb. why are you people starting another fight?

kalena Jul 8th, 2000 05:05 PM

Life is a trip! And we are all part of the journey (?) Hang in there, Cindy.

xx2 Jul 9th, 2000 06:54 AM

IMO, Cindy and to a lesser extent Ilisa have WAYYY too high of an opinion of themselves here! They keep posting and posting and posting. Frankly, their posts are tiresome! Cindy, professes to be a stay at home mom. Who is watching her kids while she posts all day?? She must either have a nanny or lets them forage for themselves. It makes me wonder if she and her pal are not closet travel agents.

need Jul 9th, 2000 04:23 PM

Yes, I must admit it IS tiresome to log on here and see the same lengthy ad nauseum posts from the same people day in and day out. <BR> <BR>If you are surfing and posting on this site every fifteen minutes all day long you have a little problem. Try turning off the computer and getting involved in real life activities instead of spending all your time in cyberworld. It will benefit you (and no doubt your family and employer) and it will benefit fellow visitors to this site, who no doubt tire of the same windbags who have, for whatever reason, decided to make this site their new home.

Rita Jul 9th, 2000 05:18 PM

Frankly, New Blood, I'll take the people who use their names over the anonymous crackpots anyday. Who are you, anyway, and why are you hiding?

Math Jul 9th, 2000 05:44 PM

If someone is complaining about how much someone else is posting, then the complainer is just as bad as the person they are complaining about because both are visiting this site the same number of times.Really, who cares how much someone posts. If you don't like it, read something else or POST SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS BETTER. The people who are complaining are the problem because they are adding nothing at all to this board. Nothing. <BR>If we are going to have some rule about how much someone can post, I guess we'll have to kill off a whole lot of people on the forum, and I wont even name them all. <BR>Now, back to travel and take your personal attacks to another place.

To.The.Original.Poster.Of.This.Thread Jul 9th, 2000 05:55 PM

Why on earth do you care what's posted on these forums? What are you, the Forum Police? It is my perogative to break up a boring, not-travel-related thread by asking "What does this have to do with travel?" Deal with it and move on. If you aren't able to deal with it, might I suggest a 12 guage shotgun in your mouth might be a better solution.

Please Jul 10th, 2000 04:55 AM

To "To the Originial: <BR> <BR>You are so funny. You say the thread is "boring". You say others should just "deal with" your interruptions and "move on". Then you accuse me of being the Forum Police, but appoint yourself the Forum cop by breaking up threads that do not meet your standards. <BR> <BR>How funny! If you see people on the street talking about something you find boring and irrelevant, do you barge in to tell them to shut up and move along? Why do you think that's ok here? I want just to be left alone. You're being a rude control freak. <BR> <BR>Esme, Christine, Nancy, Cindy, Stu, and Fraidy Cat, good points.

XX Jul 10th, 2000 05:04 AM

To Please-YOU started this stupid, inane thread--deal with it and the rude remarks it has generated. If you can't stand the way people post perhaps you should move on to another board!

nancy Jul 10th, 2000 07:01 AM

To Please, <BR>I really don't know why this happens! Someone says something, like you did, and suddenly all kinds of posters are popping up, to complain about your posting. <BR>As far as another board, I notice that the Europe Board sometimes gets into these issues, ***but*** not nearly as often, or as insultingly. <BR>Come on over. <BR>Nancy

RiceCrispyAlert Jul 10th, 2000 07:56 AM

To Anyone Snapping: <BR> <BR>Really? Who? And who are you?

sandid Jul 11th, 2000 09:35 AM

So what is the sound of "one brain snapping?" What a pathetic bunch....

wombat Jul 11th, 2000 10:42 AM

<BR>If a Please snaps in the forest, does anybody hear?? <BR>

XX Jul 11th, 2000 02:27 PM

Sandid-If we are so pathetic, why do you keep on posting? Because you have no life!!!

lin gitterman Jul 12th, 2000 05:02 AM

But.....I digress. I've used this forum for a long time and a great number of trip and have made my hotel and restaurant reservations through these threads - the FUN part of the threads is actually how they digress. See it as a source of great amusement - if we had anything better to do, we would not be playing on the Fodors site and reading 50 response threads would we?
