We got no responses regarding Bucks County, so are there other options that qualify as perhaps luxurious B&B or smaller scale urban hotel? We prefer to be no more than 30-50 minutes from Trenton. We know Philadelphia is an option, but wanted to find out if there's something else we're overlooking.

All the places you mentioned in your other post are probably lovely. My hotel experience in Bucks County is at least 20 years old though so I can't really comment. Did you check tripadvisor? Other than Bucks County and between DC and Trenton (which eliminates Princeton), Philadelphia is probably your best bet.

Yes. I checked Trip Advisor. Not terribly up to date and difficult to add up. Big margins between highs and lows on various small hotels. I fear you are right: Philadelphia or bust, but while I want a good, comfortable, quality night I was hoping to veer away from the heavy door man/valet/high rise/high maintenance hotel scene. I've been so lucky on this site, finding unexpected gems. I was hoping for another find.

Also, do a search on B&B's in Philadelphia. I think there are some nice ones.

You do realize that DC to Trenton is less than a 5 hour drive? I'm not questioning your motives, but when you leave DC you are almost at your ultimate destination.

We enjoyed the Inn at Montchanin Village, which is just maybe a half hour off your route, right outside Wilmington, Delaware. It's an actual whole little nineteenth century village turned into a luxury inn.

Travel and Leisure this year named it the world's best plave to stay under $250/night. I think that's stretching it, but it is something distinctive and different, with a markedly nonurban feel even though it's actually on the fringe of greater metro Philadelphia (and it's like Bucks County, at the other end of the metro area, in that sense).

What is arguably the best reviewed restaurant in the state, improbably named Krazy Kat's although it's subdued and expensive, is right there at the edge of the village, and they will do room service. The Inn has packages which include Krazy Kat's for breakfast, but if you want that, be sure to specify--it's not a true B&B in that breakfast is not automatically included.

If you do go to Philly and don't want a typical hotel experience, try this:

GeBo's idea is a good one. The Inn at Montchanin is very nice, and very near Winterthur if you were interested in seeing that. It's probably an hour in good traffic up to Trenton though.

I second the recommendation for Inn at Montchanin. We stayed for two romantic days about 2 years ago before my husband's college reunion in Philly and loved it. We got a great deal on their website and had a two-story suite with a lovely sitting room and fire place downstairs. I love the sheets so much that I bought a set at the store they run in the village. Lots of DuPont family gardens and estates to visit in the area. KrazyKat was good and I remember some other good restaurant in the area.

Check out Karen Brown's books and website for places too since she cover those type of accomodations.
