Ohio - Visit Longberger Complex
 

We are planning a one-day trip to the Longaberger basket manufacturing complex near Newark, OH. Has anyone been there? If so, what are some of the "must see" attractions?<BR>Any suggestions for overnight accommodations. <BR>We are empty-nesters so we won't have children with us.<BR>Thanks for your feedback.

A full day at Longaberger would be a stretch. May want to consider visiting Columbus, too.<BR><BR>http://www.columbus.org/

I'm a big longaberger fan & live about 35 miles from there & have absolutely no problem spending a whole day there. Be sure to take a factory tour & after visiting the Homestead, drive down the road to Dresden & visit all the shops there. They have special baskets you can buy only at the Homestead & also a different one available only in Longaberger's store in Dresden. You can also weave your own basket. They also have a beautiful golf course if you like to golf...it is hard to get a tee time, as they are booked way ahead. CF is right...be sure to polish your plastic. I never leave without spending at least $200.00. It's an enjoyable day even if you are not into baskets. Also, be sure you go see their corporate headquarters inside a building that is a basket & is located 16 miles west of the Homestead. You have to see it to believe it!!

You can also drive about 1/2 hour to Holmes county Ohio (the Amish country in Ohio). Lots of small shops, Amish style meals, cheese factories and pretty scenery. Carlisle Inn looks nice and the prices seemed reasonable if you want to stay all night. We drove from southern Ohio to Longaberger and then on to Holmes county on one Sat. But, nothing is open on Sunday. In Dresden-stop at Heart of Dresden for basket liners and acessories.

All this for a basket? Sounds like a basket case to me.

I had no trouble spending an entire weekend in Dresden. We stayed at Dave Longaberger's previous home, it was gorgeous and relaxing. However, I can't remember the name of it! I'm sure you can find it under lodging on either the longaberger or Dresden website. We got there early and they let us tour all the rooms and then pick one we liked! Each one is totally unique. We actually ran into Dave (this was a few years ago before he passed) and had a great conversation with him. This place is not for children, but perfect for an adult getaway. You'll love the town, and the pasta restaurant has the best food. Enjoy.

I was wondering if you made your trip to Dresden and the Longaberger factory. It is a magnificant place, from the Place off the Square (hotel) in Newark, to the corporate basket building, the Homestead, Crawford Barn and of course, the town &amp; quaint little shops in Dresden. We were there 1 1/2 years ago and I am about to complete my scrapbook of our 5 day trip. I was wondering if you had any recollections as to some of the facts about the factory, like it is the size of how many football fields, how many employees to they have and # of baskets made each day? I know we were told, but I don't remember and they don't have these facts on their website. Please respond if you have any info for me. Thanks.
