ohare to intercontinental
I'm trying to figure out how to take rapid transit from O'Hare Airport to the Intercontinental Hotel. I've looked at the Transit Authority website but still a bit unclear about just where to get off and/or change. Anyone know? Thanks.

hi steve,
take the train towards downtown and get off on chicago avenue. from there, take the chicago avenue bus eastbound (you may want to ask which bus goes east) to michigan ave. from there, walk 3 blocks to the intercontinental. good luck!

A quibble with the previous suggestion. If you're not familiar with Chicago, and you're travelling into town with luggage, I wouldn't suggest you make that train-to-bus transfer. You won't be waiting for a bus in the best part of town, and you didn't mention what time of day you'll be doing this. There's another way to do it, that sounds complicated, but isn't really.

Get on the train at O'Hare - it will be Loop-bound, there's no alternative. Take the train to Washington Street (the stop just before Washington is Clark/Lake, just to alert you). Get off at Washington, look for the stairway going DOWN. Go down the stairs, thru the tunnel and go up the next set of stairs ON THE LEFT (this is important...) Walk down the platform about the equivalent of a 1/2 block or so (the trains pull far ahead at this stop, if you don't make this part of the walk, you'll have to scoot to catch the last part of the train and you might miss it.) Take whatever train comes along and get off at the first stop: Grand Avenue. Exit to the street. If you look around, you'll see the high-rise buildings of Michigan Avenue...head that way, walk about a block and a half, go up the stairs and you'll be across the street from, and close to the Intercontinental. (There is some surface construction going on at that Grand Avenue/subway stop area...I'm assuming it hasn't interfered with the subway operations). Hope this is helpful to you....enjoy your trip!

Well, I'm back from Chicago now so I missed the helpful advise. However, my plane didn't get in until fairly late so to save time I took the shuttle($16) which took me right to the hotel. The extra money was probably worth it because I was able to get a good night's sleep and got out to see the sights early the next morning. Chicago was great! I took the architectural boat tour which is a wonderful way to see the many fine buildings in the city. The "Cows on Parade" show that's going on right now all over the city is worth a trip to see!
