O'Hare to Hyatt Regency Chicago
 

Our flight gets around 4pm. I am sure there will be traffic. What is the best way to get from airport to hotel and how long will it take? Thanks

Our son met us in downtown Chicago at the Sheraton Towers. He left from OHare via the EL and it took 45 min.

You have many options:

Train - about 55 minutes - cheap

Shuttle - at 4:30pm?, guessing but about 1.5 hour - reasonable

Taxi - again at that time, about an hour - expensive

Limo - same as taxi - about the same cost as a cab, maybe little more.

Rent a car - least attractive option as parking downtown will cost you a little fortune.

In addition to AA's list, you can also share a cab, which will cut the expense but add a little to the time. When you'e in the line for the cab, simply tell the attendant you'd like to share.
I strongly recommend against the shuttle, having endured many bad experiences with them when forced by my employers to take the shuttle. They will always tell you your shuttle is leaving in a "few minutes", even if the wait is over half an hour. And my hotel was always the LAST stop, even if I boarded first. Specifically, to the Hyatt Regency, I rode a shuttle once that took over 2 hours. If you do take the shuttle for some reason, do NOT book the round trip. On two occasions, while in Chicago for a convention, the shuttle service refused to honor my return reservation. Both times, I waited over an hour for shuttles that wouldn't come (was told first on the phone that it would "be there shortly" then eventually told they were too busy to stop by my hotel). I had to rush and find a cab to the airport and barely made my flights. Shuttles--never again.

I can't even remember how many times I've taken the EL to O'Hare and watched the gridlocked traffic from the train. Take the EL.

The El is your easiest way into the city-I90 will be gridlocked at 4:15pm when you get out of the airport. That said, you'll be taking the Blue line in,getting off at Dearborn and Washington, and you'll be walking or taking a cab for 7 blocks to your hotel.

Depends on how much luggage you have, and whether you feel like juggling it on the train, and then hailing a cab or walking 6-7 blocks to your hotel. Most days you can get in from the airport in a cab in about 45-60 minutes at the cost of about $40. I have never found there to be a huge time advantage on the el, what with waiting for the train, making stops and conections, etc.

We took the El along with cabs from the station to hotel.It was perfect.
