O'Hare Parking Options
Does anyone have suggestions on O'Hare Parking for a 14-day trip?
The best rate I've found is $9 per day. However, they have a fine-print $1.25 per day "airport surcharge." This makes the rate basically the same as any other off-site facility. We'll consider a park and fly although we don't actually need a room either before or after our flight. On that note, is anyone familiar with the Days Inn O'Hare West in Elk Grove? They offer the best rate I've found, but I'm wondering if there is a reason for the cheap rate. |
If you join the Marriott Rewards program (which is free), you can park at the Marriott Courtyard O'Hare on Des PLaines River Road for $50 for two weeks. They have a free shuttle to/from O'Hare--the ride takes about 10 minutes.
The first time we did that, I was planning to do their park and fly (which we had done several times before), but had called to ask if we actually had to stay in the room, as our flight was in the afternoon, and we didn't want to spend the night. It was the hotel that suggested the Rewards program $50 parking rate. |
Abram:
How recently have you done this? I used this suggestion for a trip last October. I joined the Rewards Program and called the hotel about 8 weeks prior to departure to make arrangements. The "arrangements" were made and I made sure to note the asst. mgr.s name. I use the quotation marks because we arrived on the day of departure to be told that they no longer offered that service. When I quoted the manager's name to whom we had spoken, I was told he no longer worked there. There we were, stuck between a rock and a hard place. I was ready to pay for a park 'n fly package even though we would never use the room. Thankfully, the manager on duty honored the agreement but said we should make sure to note that it was a one-time deal and this service would not exist in the future. |
My in-laws (aka, the cheapest people on the planet) for years have just parked their car for free at some hotel or another that had a shuttle service to the airport. They haven't been towed yet, but of course, I secretly hope it catches up with them some day.

We last did it in November, 2005.

Hmmm, interesting. Our trip began at the very end of October 2005. I take it you were NOT told the same thing I related above?
|
Our experience was the same as it had always been. We sign in and pay at the beginning of our trip, take the shuttle to and then from O'Hare, and just leave at the end.

Any other ideas?

There's a large garage at Cumberland and the Kennedy where there is also an L stop. You could park there and take the L to O'Hare (2 stops). Not sure of the rate but since it is a commuter station it's probably not much.
