Ogunquit - Things to do for children

Hello,
I am planning our next year's summer vacation and a friend of mine recommended Ogunquit. We will be there for one week with our 9 year old son, 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son. They primarily enjoy a nice pool and the beach. I am hoping to get some hiking and a possible trip to Acadia in there. I am not familiar with Maine, however.
What are some things to do with children in Ogunquit? Also, how feasible is a drive to Acadia and back in one day? (we will probably be renting a condo for one week).
Any hints/comments/suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Of course the big attraction for children is the beach. Ogunquit is blessed with a wide, clean, white sand beach that goes on for miles. The water is pretty cool, but some kids don't seem to mind. There are often tidal pools along the beach that are a bit more tolerable temperature wise. Another fun thing to do ,espcially in the morning, is walking the Marginal Way.
Out on route 1, there are mini golf places and ice cream stands to keep them happy. If you drive a bit north, just south of Old Orchard are some pretty big water parks on the highway. As for hiking, there is a mountain just west of Ogunquit (can't remember the name) that has a park and hiking trails. Another fun place for kids would be York Short Sands beach, which has an old timey resort feel with a penny arcade and Goldenrods salt water taffy shop where it's made right in the front window. For a more city outing, Portsmouth NH is close by, as is Portland. Both would make a fun day trip.
As for a day trip to Acadia, I believe it's a good 4-5 hours from Ogunquit.

Ditto what Zootsi said. For hiking near Ogunquit its Mount Agamenticus - http://seacoastnh.com/Travel/Scenic_...enticus_Trail/

Other fun things - You can take the Finestkind boat trip from Perkins Cove and learn about lobstering. Nearby Portsmouth has a children's museum and Prescott Park has concerts for kids - http://www.prescottpark.org/events/w...kids_shows.asp

NH's White Mountains would be a lot closer than Acadia. I think North Conway to Portland is about 1 hour. Should you decide on a day trip, Storyland in Glen continues to get great reports. It's a theme park for younger children. Glen is north of North Conway. York is a great suggestion, very popular with families.

There's a petting zoo in York and train musuem in Wells - can't recall names but they're both on rte. 1.
As stated the water is very cold but my niece and newphews manage to stay in the water for hours.
Arcadia is too far for a day drive.

Acadia is way to far for a day's drive. Suggest either Ogunquit or Acadia. There is a little mountain you can hike near Ogunquit. I think it's called Mt Agamenticus (wrong spelling). It's an easy hike.
