ogunquit playhouse
 

does anyone know anything about this venue? I was wondering about the performance of AIDA that is playing in July...would it be professional? is it a good place to enjoy a musical of that size? thanks for your help.

Ogunquit books package musicals that are put together for a number of summer theatres. Last I looked some of them are the same as at Bucks County Playhouse.
Yes it will be professional and probably of pretty high standards. It's been a few years since I've been there, but I remember it as being a very nice arrangement. It isn't huge and if you have good seats, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

now, a follow-up question....does anyone know, with first-hand experience, of the restaurant which replaced Hurricane...i think that it is run by Arrows.....name? food? atmosphere?

The restaurant that replaced Hurricane is called MCPerkinsCove (the m and the c stand for the first names of the chef/owners of both Arrows and this restaurant. Last I knew it hadn't opened yet. But you can check their website (mcperkinscove.com)to see if there is an opening date as yet.

Yes, it is open. Close friends have been, and they were not particularly impressed - BUT - they are hard to impress! At any rate, the location cannot be beat. Enjoy the view! :) If you are looking for other recommendations, we love Provence for fine dining, and the Oar Weed for casual.

The Playhouse is an older theatre, and the acoustics and sightlines are not the greatest. But the talent is usually of very high caliber, definitely professional. I'd opt for closer seats, even if off-center. I think you'll have a lovely experience.

I asked my "foodie" friends for more specifics on MC...

Atmosphere is the biggest draw. They said it was hip, cool, and had dramatic ocean views from every seat.

In their opinion, the menu was of limited variety, but what they had was very good. They did feel things were a bit overpriced. But said they enjoyed a perfect martini!

The playhouse is great summer theatre and worth a visit.

Just a note, if you are collector of glass, there is a fabulous shop(specializing in glass) very close to the playhouse. We have bought many things there over the years.

wanted to report back......the playhouse was delightful summer theatre, we enjoyed it and had good seats about 14 rows back.

we tried to make reservations at mc perkins, but they were booked. had only been open 3 weeks, i guess that everyone wants to try it. we ate at joe allens instead.....the minimalist approach but very good....

all in all, the weekend in ogunquit was terrific.....i think that i loved my lobster salad sandwich at the Oarweed the best !

We took indytravel to MCPerkins cove this weekend. It replaced the Hurricane. The Cockle clams were wonderful and the others had wonderful dishes and I wouldn't expect otherwise because it's owned by Mark and Craig who own the best restauant in Maine in Oqunquit(as well as in New England)
"Arrows". Their organic vegetables that grow behind arrows are served at the bistro. The glassware and dishes are updated tres moderne. There are black slip covers on the chairs and they are serving upstairs now where I like the view even better. We had the best table downstairs but only because when we reserved, I said my guest had never seen the ocean. We also went to Rockport to "My place'Another local place we like for the ocean view.
Rockport will soon have a liquer liscence in the next few weeks. So we brought our own wine.

We went to MC Perkins that same weekend, but for a Sunday lunch. Hurricane fans will be very happy, because the new place falls in a similar price range, and with a similar menu. Lobster rolls and chowder are still available. Our table loved the turkey club with avocado and the fried haddock sandwiches. Also had a great cheesey salad of sauteed raddichio. Strong drinks and yummy desserts! I love the new decor, too, but prefer downstairs seating as there would be no lower level roof in the way. However, the upstairs private dining room juts out a bit more, and offers an exquisite setting for a small group (10-12). Only negative was s-l-o-w kitchen prep. Service was good and attentive, but the food took forever to come out. I imagine this will improve. I am not a huge fan of Arrows, but I did enjoy their new venture very much.

I've seen a couple of productions there and in both cases the leads were names you know from tv or movies. Older not very fancy but productions were good and I thought price was well worth it.
