Ogunquit for a night???
The hub and I are sneaking off for a mtg in Boston but are flying into Manchester Oct 25 and looking for a nice/fun/clean/$75-150 a night place to shack up :). Needs are pretty basic but would certainly appreciate suggestions for a place to stay (maybe w/a view of the ocean) and to eat somewhere between Manchester and Ogunquit. We don't arrive till 4 so won't have too much time to explore. We like basic foods - steaks, seafood, pub grub - not much into ethnic food but might be convinced with an enthusiastic recommendation.
As always, thanks for any and all assistance |
There are many very good restaurants in Portsmouth, NH, which is just about halfway. Try Pesce Blue, The Metro, or 45 Degrees North for starters.

Their restaurant is terrific, and I think they also have a more casual "pub" section. |
An extra suggestion if time: visit the little Ogunquit Museum of American Art
on Shore Road overlooking the bay. Very nice. ozarksbill |
From Manchester, I assume you'd be going Rt. 101 East. Once you get to Hampton, NH, you can take the direct route (Rt. 95 North), or the scenic route (Route 1 North). Here's a link for restaurants in the seacoast area, http://www.seacoasteats.com/index.htm. I've heard great reviews from friends about The Old Salt in Hampton. For a place to stay in Ogunquit, we love the Anchorage By The Sea, it's motel on a bluff overlooking the water. I've never had an oceanview room, I've always stayed at their property across the street that has king beds, whirlpool tub (for 2), and gas fireplace. The main motel has a nice indoor pool and a large outdoor hot tub. It's also on the Marginal Way, which is a walkway along the bluff that you can walk to Perkin's Cove. Jonathan's in Ogunquit is a nice restaurant with good food. If you've never been to the area, I'd take the scenic route, it will probably take you an additional 45 minutes or so, but it's definitely worth it. If you change your mind, there are a few places where you can hop back on Rt. 95 as they run parallel. Also, 5-6pm is rush hour on Rt. 95. Have a great time!
