Off Strip Inexpensive Lodging
 

Based on the posts here the Orleans sounds like the best off strip hotel but since it isn't available for our dates would anyone know an alternative? We're looking for clean, safe neighborhood,inexpensive. In fact it could actually be very off strip since we will have a car and will be driving to Lake Mead and Red Rock for some hiking.

How about the Best Western Mardi Gras? Anyone ever stay there?

We would really appreciate any and all suggestions.

As I told another poster about the Golden Nugget, we were able to get it for $69/night last Feb. Don't know what deals they are running now, but it was a VERY nice hotel downtown. Like you, we had a car and went to Hoover Dam, Red Rock and all up and down the Strip. It was a great price for a 4* hotel and they had free valet parking (we still tipped of course).

I got the LV Marriott Suites near the convention center on Priceline at the end of August. Nice large room. Parking garage in back/attached. I think my bid was $62.

There are 4 "Station" hotels (Palace Station, etc) in the area. I stay in them when going for medical appointments or other business. Their everyday prices beat Priceline strip prices and they are all quite nice. the only drawback, which is not an issue for me, is their swiming pools are not the ornate, trendy pools you'll find in some of the strip hotels.

First I'd check goldcoastcasino.com, it's the sister hotel to the Orleans.

If not available, The Riviera and the Sahara are decent north-strip hotels that often have some low rates. Check on travelworm.com or hotelkingdom.com

I would avoid the Mardi Gras, The Rodeway and the Travelodges, Days Inns & HoJos in Vegas, but any of these are good bets:

La Quinta Inn on Paradise Road
Tuscany Las Vegas on Flamingo Road
Palace Station
Terrible's
Hotel San Remo
Super 8 on Koval Lane

How about Sam's Town? A ways from the strip, but very nice rooms and fun western atmosphere. Other places that offer affordable but nice loding are San Remo and the Rio Suites. We have also stayed downtown and felt very comfortable...and it is certainly inexpensive. The Fremont Street experience at night has really created a better atmosphere. Walks to and from parking areas can be a bit scary at night, so we use valet parking. The Lady Luck is bargain priced and has quite nice rooms. Fun to see the old style casinos, too...esp. the Golden Gate with real 99 cent shrimp cocktails and a piano bar.

I think there are a couple of nice hotels at Lake Las Vegas that come up on priceline regularly. Ritz-Carlton and Hyatt Regencey?

You might try Silverton. They are located 2 miles south of Mandalay Bay just off of I-15. They have recently remodeled and are opening an expansion in two weeks. They have a shuttle that runs every 30 minutes or so to the Tropicana, Mandalay Bay, and the factory outlet mall. Their rooms are clean, and comfortable. Often, their rooms can be had for $39.00. Their coffee shop has very good food, and they have opened a new steak house as well. I often put friends/relatives up there and have never had a compaint.
