Off Broadway Shows
Hi-I will be taking my daughter and her friend to NY in March (both 17). We will see something on Broadway but thought something off Broadway would be fun for them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check out what TDF.org is offering.
There are a few theater complexes on West 42 Street. Signature, Theatre Row etc where seats can be had for $30 to $40. Mint Theatre is a tad higher and offers plays not usually seen. Just saw Unfaithfully Yours there. |
I'm too lazy to check if it's still playing, but they might like Avenue Q.
Look at the websites playbill, theatermania, and broadwaybox for show listings and discount codes. |
I'd recommend Come From Away for on Broadway - previews start this week and it opens in March. I've seen it in DC and it is very special and needs to be seen. I am going to the Box Office to get a preview ticket today!
For off Broadway I'd recommend Cagney. I see a lot of off and off off Broadway. You can see my reviews here: https://www.show-score.com/member/sue-5 |
Thanks very much all. Will look into your suggestions. I also thought of Come from Away. We are from Canada and I missed seeing it when it had a short run in Toronto.

Then you must see it here!

I thought Spamilton was hilarious. Yes, there is lots about Hamilton but it really just pokes fun at Broadway in general and attempts to modernize or make it relevant to all. The scenes where Lin-Manuel Miranda is getting tips from Stephen Sondheim were my favorite!
And do you already have your Broadway show picked out? I was sorry to leave before Come From Away began, but I did get to see Dear Evan Hansen and Natasha,Pierre, etc. Both would be great for your group. |
