Off Broadwat recos (without kids)

Any current (within 2 weeks)recos for Off Broadway? I know De La Guarda is often suggested with kids, but what about for adults?

Sorry about the typo in the title. Still looking for some off Broadway advice.

Seems that most of the shows that have opened recently are just OK - nothing all that great.
Its hard to recommend without knowing your taste in theatre, but here are a few long-running, popular Off-B'way shows:
Blue Man Group
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change
Stomp
Tony 'N Tina's Wedding
Menopause, the Musical

A couple of new shows that have gotten good reviews are Bridge & Tunnel and Cookin'.

There are a number of shows opening within the next couple of weeks. I think your best bet is to check Playbill.com,, NYTimes.com, and newyorkmetro.com for info on specific shows. You can read descriptions to see if the topics are appealing to you and also check reviews.

The Stendhal Syndrome with Richard Thomas and Maria Tucci. There are even discount tickets available via www.playbill.com.

Thanks Patrick. I hadn't heard anything about it but checked out the Playbill offer yesterday. The discount (& Maria Tucci) starts after I need it.

Any info on Johnny Guitar or Intimate Apparel?

Spring212 my taste (& that of my friend who's coming in from out of town) is-anything good-whether comedy, drama, musical. I haven't been to off broadway in AGES. Just want to avoid paying $60+ per ticket for something juvenile or amateurish.

Oddly enough then, did you realize that the person Maria Tucci is replacing is Isabella Rossellini? To most people that would be a bigger draw than Maria Tucci, whether it is deserved or not.

Johnny Guitar is in previews so there have been no reviews yet. Intimate Apparel starts previews this week. Sounds like you might be getting tickets before either of these shows open - if that's the case you won't be able to read reviews before deciding. I saw an early preview of Johnny Guitar - IMO, strong performances but the show could be funnier and by now maybe it is. Other people I know who have seen it have had mixed reactions ranging from loving it to thinking it's just OK. For what it's worth, no one I know has hated it or found it boring.
Another possibility I just came across is Mrs Farnsworth, which starts previews on Thursday - it's an A.R. Gurney play starring Sigourney Weaver and John Lithgow.

I was remiss in not reporting we did/> see Mrs. Farnsworth in preview & for only $15/tkt. This theater, the Flea (www.theflea.org)in Tribeca has a policy of offering preview tickets on a first come first serve basis the day of performance starting at 5 :30. We arrived at the theater at about 5 & there were already people in line. We were lucky enough to get in. The show is terrific. I gather the run is also sold out. It's a half block from the very glamorous Tribeca Grand Hotel where we went for drinks before the show.

mclaurie - "bridge and tunnel" has gotten very good reviews, Sarah Jones is on track to becoming a star - several friends saw it and loved it. Lisa Kron's show "Well" at the public was loved by 2 friends and disliked by another 2 (so I guess that's a draw) Cookin' is fun, but kinda - loud, energetic non-verbal fun. Intimate Apparel has gotten nice reviews - not glowing but sounds quite moving . . . Frozen with Swoosie Kurtz is getting good word of mouth.

Thanks very much mp. After my great experience at Mrs. Farnsworth I looking for more off Broadway.
