Odd Couple Seating Question

I'm considering bidding on some e-bay tickets but I've found a few different seating charts online. Can anyone confirm if Row "E" is the front row of the rear mezz (called the balcony on some charts)? Also - how far does it overhang the front mezz? One chart has the front mezz overhanging the orchestra at row "K". Any comments on these seats? We often enjoy the front row of a mezz section but I'm wondering if for this show we will be missing too much in the way of facial expressions. Thanks in advance for any info and opinions!

You want to tell folks what/where on earth you're talking about?

P_M Oct 27th, 2005 09:15 AM

I think mcqueeney is asking about seating for the Odd Couple, although it took me a few minutes to figure that out. When I saw the title I pictured a very odd looking couple trying to book seats on a plane. :-))

mcqueeney, if my guess is right, could you please give the name and location of the theatre?

Jean_Valjean Oct 27th, 2005 09:24 AM

The Odd Couple at the Brooks Atkinson theater in NY? If I recall correctly, the rear mezzanine / balcony section is behind the front mezzanine, and not above...

mcqueeney449 Oct 27th, 2005 09:33 AM

Yikes! Sorry about mystery post! I meant to put Brooks Atkinson Theater and NY in the title.

P_M - LOL - we can sometimes be a fairly odd couple but not that odd!

Jean - if your right about the rear mezz I don't think we will go for those tickets. When I get a chance I will call the theater to confirm ... but I would still love any comments/opinions on seating in this theater. There are a lot of tickets on e-bay and my dates are open ( we live in CT) so maybe I can find first row in the front mezz. Any comments on how visibility is from the far sides of the orchestra sections? Or from the very back of the orchestra section? Thanks again. :)

We were there the other night at the very back of the theater and it actually wasn't bad. I'm told that the seats on the far side of the orchestra can be obstructed views.

Does anyone know about seats - Front Row Mezz A- all the way on the side - last two seats? Are these any good?

grantop Apr 4th, 2006 02:17 AM

ogee - all the way on the side Front Row Center Section of Mezz, or on the side of the sections off to the left or right? What seat numbers are you looking at?

Here is a seating chart:

ogee, the front row of the front mezzanine is clearly row AA. Any row A of any mezzanine will be the fifth row of the mezzanine (also called first row of rear mezzanine or first row of the balcony, depending on whom you're talking to). I'd be a little leary of missing a bit of a corner of the set if on the very far ends of the side sections of AA, front mezzanine, but would still prefer those to any seats in the rear mezzanine also called the balcony.
I know this sounds confusing, but recently the box offices started referring to balconies as rear mezzanines which causes some confusion.

topping for ogee.

Check an official ticket source for this show -- Telecharge, Ticketmaster, or the show's website. They will almost definitely have a seating chart for the venue where you can see exactly where you'd be sitting.

grantop Apr 4th, 2006 08:41 AM

Karameli - good idea! I would call ticketmaster and see where these are and what else is available. You can still use the discount codes (if these are discounted seats.)

ogee Apr 4th, 2006 09:13 AM

Hi. This was addressed on another post as well. I called ticketmaster and was informed Row A is the first row of front mezzanine. It looks like playbill's seating chart is incorrect. A more detailed seating chart can be found on www.nederlander.org
Of course, in the time it took me to clear this up, the Row A seats are gone. Now I'm looking at Row B. Figures.

ogee Apr 4th, 2006 09:43 AM

Can anyone comment if Front Mezzanine seats are better than Orchestra Row Q (last row I think)?

starrsville Apr 4th, 2006 09:48 AM

Sure. The person on the other end of the phone when you call and order the tickets. Have the seating chart in front of you so you both can be looking at the same seating chart.

CJBROWN Apr 4th, 2006 10:04 AM

we have seats #2, #4, #6, Brooks Atkinson theatre for Odd Couple. We are in Front Mezzanine, Row C. Our seats are the first 3 in from the aisle. I hope these are good seats. Opinions anyone? Also, I couldn't see the seating chart on Nederlander.com, I'll look again, please advise, thanks

HowardR Apr 4th, 2006 10:20 AM

ogee, I would take the front mezzanine (assumeing it's not on the extreme left or right) over row Q.
CJBrown, you should be fine with those tickets.

CJBROWN Apr 4th, 2006 10:40 AM

thanks HowardR, you must be a native New Yorker, I see your name in a lot of posts regarding NYC (including helpful answers to all my questions), thanks!

ogee Apr 4th, 2006 10:52 AM

yes Howard, we do appreciate your help on this.
I notice that if I try for seats for a performance on the day prior, that very good seats come up. Do they release extra seats at the last minute, or could they be cancellations? Of course, it's a risk to wait until last minute b/c sometimes nothing comes up.

HowardR Apr 4th, 2006 11:09 AM

Yes, ogee, "house seats" are often released at the last minute. These are seats held for potential VIP attendance and/or tickets that the performers in the show have access to.
Yes, CJBrown, I am a New Yorker....and glad to help out when I can.
And, yes, ogee, you do take a chance waiting until the last minute. More often than not, you'll be shut out if you do! In other words, consider yourself lucky when you do get those great last-minute seats.
