October lodging in Jenner area
we are driving from San Fran thru Olema, Pt. Reyes, Bodega Bay to Jenner for dinner. Rivers End restaurant sounds good but now need a place to stay. Bodega Bay sounds a little pricey at $200+ per night.
We are from Michigan and unfamiliar with thia area. Does this sound doaboe? |
Hmmmm...my first thought is why not stay in Pt.Reyes,Olema or Inverness so that you can explore the National Seashore-there's loads of wonderful hikes and of course the lighthouse.
There are about 4 restaurants to choose from in Olema/Pt. Reyes, but Manka's in Inverness is where I would eat. You can stay there, but it's $$$. You can do a google search for lodging. If the River's End Inn is your destination I would never consider driving back to Bodega Bay after a glass or 2 of wine! It's a windy road that takes longer than it looks. The Inn itself has cabins and rooms that used to be avail. for single nights on the weekend. You can also try the Jenner Inn-you should get a creekside room for $150(+ -) or perhaps continue from Jenner on 116 into Monte Rio and try the Village Inn (which also has a very good restaurant) 116 will take you over to 101 and back into SF the next day. I just called the beautiful Timber Cove Inn, north of Jenner, and the gal said their rates start at $110 on weekends depending on the room. They are even cheaper on weeknights and this is one gorgeous location. Toll-free is 1-800-987-8319.
However, you will have to drive Highway 1 to get there so I wouldn't recommend it if you are planning to down a lot of that good Sonoma County wine. A little bit south of Timber Cove is the Fort Ross Lodge (707-847-3333) which is a nice property on the bluffs with newly-renovated cabins. I also see in our local phone book that there is the Jenner Inn by the Sea (707-865-2377) which is right near the River's End. This might be the best choice. I have only driven by but it looks nice and Jenner is a beautiful little village. Have a great time on "my" gorgeous coast - you should love the food at River's End! |
I recently made reservations at the Timber Cove Inn for a stay in August. I made the choice based on reviews on tripadvisor and the advice of Bay Area friends who had friends who liked it. Of course, none of the recommendations are first hand, but what can you do? The location looks stunning and it was a bit less money than Bodega Bay. I was originally thinking of the Jenner Inn, but there were several less than favorable reviews on tripadvisor.

The Bodega Bay Lodge and Spa is a gorgeous property. Worth the extra $$$ to stay somewhere wonderful.
We had The Trumpeter Swan room, a suite with a jacuzzi and private deck, very nice. The Duck Club on the property is wonderful for dinner and I love their pool there. The jacuzzi is glass-enclosed and very nice. Also a spa on-site. ***kim*** |
Monte Rio is a few miles inland from Jenner. It's right along the Russian River and is considerably less expensive than Jenner. Use the search box for "Jenner" or "Monte Rio" and get more info. The whole region is very nice.
