October iin Boston

We are planning a trip to Boston,
in October 2008, and I was amazed
by the Hotels prices., more or less
around $300 high.
Do you have any suggestions, of a
comfortable, and centrally located
for a first time in Boston?
THANKS!! Our budget is around $180.00 to $200.00

1. this is high season for Boston.
2. depends on what you mean by "centrally located." You can stay out a ways from downtown but still on a "T" line and do a little better.

Try the John Jeffries House.

Beat me to it, Anon -- one of my secrets, but I mention it all the time, so it really isn't.

Not sure of your exact dates but the Head of the Charles regatta is Oct. 18-19th. It will be particularly difficult to find hotels in your price range during this weekend.

Thanks for all the suggestions., and
I will check the hotels you mentioned.

and there's always priceline, if you will have a car and can drive to get to wehre you want to go.

The last thing you want is a car in Boston. Driving is very difficult and hotel parking usually costs an arm and a leg.

Like others said, October is high season for Boston, with Columbus Day, fall foliage etc.

Columbus Day, folia, Head of the Charles, and don't forget college parents' weekends. Priceline is a good idea, if you already have a cancellable regular reservation; plenty of their Boston zones are completely accessible by public transit.

I almost always use Hotwire for Boston. Have a look at www.betterbidding.com

Agree that October is high season for Boston.

Recommend you ask for just-outside-Boston suggestions if you're willing to take a slightly longer ride in (on public transport, NOT by car, NEVER by car!!!) Have seen elsewhere recommendations of places in Newton, for example.
