Ocean City Maryland- What is it like?

I have never been here, but considering a short vacation with 2 16 year old girls and my 11 year old son. Can anyone give me any info-things to do, places to stay, restaurants, etc.
Thanks,
Denise

You need to be able to have complete faith in your 16 year olds as O.C. is the prime beach place for families, acid heads, little ol' ladies, little ol' men without little ol' ladies, junkies etc. etc. Lots of teenage parties that the entire beach is invited to.

Any of the chain hotels are acceptable; consider contacting the O.C. Chamber of Commerce to ask for rentals. Rentals in the 1-30 streets are near the Boardwalk; the 125th and above are blocks are getting closer to Delaware.

Good Luck!

The day life is no problem; the night life for teens is... up to your teen and you.

I couldn't agree with the above poster more!!! If you have trustworthy 16 y.o.s. then you might have fun, if not you'll spend your entire trip worrying about what they're up to. Been on vacation with 16 year olds--yuck--at least mine were boys and I might have worried a bit less! Good luck--only you can decide, but O.C. is teenage party time!! Remember someday they'll be 21!!

Ocean City is a large resort w/boardwalk and night life. The next beach from OC,MD is a small resort called Fenwick Island, which is in Delaware, more family oriented beach area, nice. And the next beach is Bethany Beach also small family beach. Both of these are very nice - You can write to the Chamber of Commerce for more information. Ocean City is very crowded and is really built up with motels along a strip. But they have a nice large beach area with many things to do. I'm from Delaware, so I like the beaches of Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach - look into these. Have a great vacation.

I also would vote for Rehoboth--a nice family place. I grew up going to the S. Jersey shore--at that time Ocean City, NJ, Stone Harbor and Cape May were all nice places--not Atlantic City--don't kow anymore, however, maybe someone else has current info.

Thanks for the advanced warnings. I worry enough at home having 2 teenage girls. Your right, 21 can't come quick enough! I'll think of another spot.

Ocean City is fine. it is a mecca for all Maryland citizens to go. june is more high school students and the rest of the summer it is very family oriented. it is very commercial and has an amusement park which is fun. The best place to go is to the southern part near the city center which is less concrete city.

your kids will enjoy it. it is a tourist spot but a popular one. it is also very safe. the high school senior week is rough but then putting 300 seniors together without chaperones tends to be.

rebotheth beach about thirty minutes north is really a nice place with all of the same features including the amusement park but all much on a smaller scale. it is more relaxing, probably more of a single scene than family. ocean city has more family attractions.

go for it!!

Read the messages from "Has anyone heard of Rehoboth Beach". This may help you since they are in the same general area.
I own a condo in Ocean City- in the northern end near Fenwick Island, Delaware. I am pretty apalled at some of the descriptions that I read about Ocean City. Ocean City may be "tacky" down at the boardwalk end, but further up there are many lovely condos and hotels with nice big beaches. There are all kinds of restaurants and even a nice amusement park for your son. Fenwick Island has some nice motels- and the Fenwick Inn is a nice safe place to stay. If you do not worry about your sixteen year olds at home, you will not have to worry about them in Ocean City.

We've been to O.C. several times and haven't run into a problem with teens. Beaches are crowded, but most teens seem to be with families--not running wild!

For a nice change, try Assateaque Island.Wonderful, wide flat beach--wild horse reserve. Horses won't bother you--be sure to take a camera. Beach is about 20 min. from O.C.
Try B.J.'s South for dinner--give free ocean boat rides following dinner.
