Ocean City, Marland Hotel?
Can anyone recommend a very nice hotel in Ocean City Maryland? Also, is there a boardwalk there? If so, is it better to stay closer to the boardwalk?

There is a boardwalk but no nice hotels.i would skip this place all together

Try The Lighthouse at Fager's Island:
www.fagers.com They have beautiful suites that overlook the wetlands on the bay side, some with fireplaces. The rates during this time of the year are quite a bit lower than the summer season, so you should be able to get a good deal. For fine dining, I can personally recommend the topside restaurant at Fager's Island and The Hobbit, which is quite close. For more dining recommendations, try www.chowhounds.com and do a search for "Ocean City Restaurants" on the Mid-Atlantic Discussion Board. The Lighthouse is a couple of miles from the Boardwalk, but I personally don't think that staying near the Boardwalk is that important. You can either catch a bus back and forth, or drive down there from the hotel. Parking shouldn't be an issue. I'm dying to stay at The Lighthouse -- hopefully hubby and I will go there for our next anniversary! Or sooner, hmmm... Have a great time! |
Whoops, I made an error: for dining recommendations at Chowhounds.com, go the the Washington DC/Baltimore Area boards:

greenfieldhunter:
I wish I could skip it, but we have to go for an event in the summer. I wanted a hotel instead of a condo because hopefully I can stay for less than a week. Johanna1, We actually have to go 4th of July week. Have you ever been there at that time. It's probably pretty crowded. I looked at the Lighthouse website, it looks beautiful. Do you know how far the beach is from there? Thanks for your help. |
We were there july 4, '04 for a long weekend and had a great time. Had never been and were pleasantly surprised. Nice beach, good restaurants, fun boardwalk. Do a search here for my trip report, along with MUCH more info from many other OC fans.

We travel to Ocean City several times a year and would recommend the Dunes Manor Hotel which is about two blocks beyond the end of the boardwalk. It's a victorian style hotel and nice accomodations. We enjoy the boardwalk and prefer staying near it.

Yes - don't listen to greenfieldhunter as OC is so much fun in the summer!!! Being on the boardwalk doubles your pleasure. The Dunes Manor is decent but the much newer, Holiday Inn and Suites on 17th street and Coastal Hwy is by far the NICEST place to stay down there. The rooms blow away the Dunes, and we've stayed at both many times. Ask for a corner room on the highest floor possible. It's VERY expensive, though in the summer. Book early as they book out every single day in the summer. It's amazing how badly people want to stay there.
We go off season each April for $161 a night. Summer is double that plus!!! Steve R Maryland |
