OBX - Best walking beaches ??
 

I have stayed many times in the Duck area but the beach there isn't great for walking several miles (in particular too much slope).
I'm thinking about renting an oceanfront house in the area between Nags Head and Hatteras this spring and want to have a good long beach to walk on.
So my question is: where are the best walking beaches?

The beach is less sloped in Frisco and on Ocracoke Island which is further south. However, there are no ocean front houses on Ocracoke Island.

I do my walking on the beach in Nags Head, from Bonnett street, going past the Nags Head pier (good restaurant on the pier to stop for coffee or breakfast) and continuing down- you can keep going all the way to and past South Nags head if you like.


The beach in Nags head is flat and wide. Great for walking.

I previously would not have considered staying in Nags Heas as I prefer a more "remote" setting away from crowds and "stuff" but since we will be there in May, it really shouldn't be an issue.

I don't think crowds will be in problem either in May. I don't know what your accomodation needs are but a place DH and I stayed in Nags Head and enjoyed is the Owens Motel. It is a mom and pop kind of place. Clean but not up-scale if that is what you require. They have ocean front efficencies which is what we required. We like to be able to do our own fresh seafood cooking some of time. The ocean-front bottom units have dunes in fromt of them so your view of the ocean is limited but the second floor has full ocean views. Their prices are very reasonable and the walking beach is directly in front of you, You actually step from your unit directly on the sand. The Pier is walking distance and that little restaurant on the pier is great for a breakfast or lunch.
