Oakland Airport Transportation
Looking for experts. Need to know the best way to get from Oakland airport to the China Basin area of San Francisco. I have researched the BART option but I wonder how feasible this is with luggage (not a lot, one 22" roller each for two of us). Does the van transport service do a good job? I would like to avoid taxi just due to the high cost of service, but if that is the absolute most reliable way then we could do taxi.

Thanks in advance for any hints.

I think that riding BART with 1 piece of rolling luggage each would be no problem. There are escalators at the stations so you wont have to lug your bags up and down stairs. It might be a bit of a squeeze getting though the turnstyles, but you should be fine.

The problem with using BART is that it doesn't put you anywhere near China Basin. So you would have a substantial walk or have to get on a Muni bus. Or, you could take BART into SF, get off at the Embarcadero stop, and then take a taxi. That would be substantially cheaper than a taxi all the way from the airport. You will need to take the BART bus shuttle from the airport to the Oakland Airport BART station, and then take BART into SF. What time of day will you land? That makes a difference for taxi availability once you get to the Embarcadero.

Use BART to Embarcadero to save some, then taxi to China Basin, depending on the time of the day or they day of the week (weekend? weekday?) there is a safety issue.

Thanks for input. We are arriving Oakland on a Monday around 1130 am. Need to be at China Basin no later than 3 or so to board a cruise ship. BART sounds like a good option so far.

I use the Bayporter Express airport shuttle service from Oakland airport to San Francisco. View their website at bayporter.com or call 415 467-1800 for information.
