Oakland Airport Transportation

We are arriving after midnight into the Oakland Airport and need to go into the SF, Union Square area. Any tips on the best Shuttle/Limo service to use? Or is a taxi a better option?
Thanks,
fwc

How many people are in your party, and do you have a lot of luggage? I think a taxi would be the most convenient. But if you have more than 4 people then a shuttle is your only option, unless you hire more than one taxi. Super Shuttle has a good reputation.

Your welcome.

If you only have one suitcase each, you may want to consider BART instead.

There's a shuttle to the BART station and the Powell St. exit is just a couple of blocks from Union Square.

These folks are arriving AFTER MIDNIGHT. That is not a good time to be trying to navigate public transit in Oakland!

Your best bets would be Supershuttle or a cab. Not cheap by any means, but the quickest and safest way to make that particular journey.

Midnight ANYWHERE is too late to be wandering around...

The BART Shuttle is perfectly fine.

Now, once you get to SF, Powell street exit, then get your cab.

As discussed on these boards it is SF that is dangerous at night not Oakland or East Oakland especially...the Oakland International Airport.

Growing up in the East Bay as a statement is misleading for credibility.

For confirmation of the BART from Oakland matter simply do a search by typing in BART or Oakland Airport and find all of the posts on this subject.

Again, I live in Piedmont but would not hesitate to get the shuttle to Bart.

I just checked American Airporter Shuttle rates as $25 mentioned seemed to be too cheap... it's $39 for first person from Oakland airport to San Francisco, and $15 each next person. Still after midnight I'd pay any price.

And sorry I can't answer your question as of what is better: shuttle, limo or taxi.

Sorry about that fwcrawford, I skipped he part where you said you were arriving after midnight. In that case I stand by my original recommendation of taking a taxi or shuttle, no BART.

After midnight taxi, limo and shuttle are your only options. The BART Shuttle will not be reliable to get you to the BART station before BART stops running for the night.

Oakland taxi hire rates are even higher than those for San Francisco, so I would recommend that you call around and get some quotes. It maybe be that it's the same price for two people to take a taxi as it is for two people to take a shuttle. If that's the case, get a taxi, but it might not be. I tried to look up offical taxi rates for Oakland taxis, but was unsuccessful. You'll have to phone the Oakland Convention and Visitor's Bureau to get the rates. Sorry couldn't be more helpful.
