Oakland Airport to San Francisco

Anyone familiar with flying into Oakland instead of SFO? I may book on Southwest Airlines and they don't go into SFO. We will be staying at the Argonaut near the Wharf for two days. Our plan is to cab/limo (5 people) from the airport to the Argonaut. After the weekend there, we will pick up a rental car to drive to Mendocino. We would spend our last night in Oakland and return the car to the Oakland Airport. I know BART goes to Oakland (we took it to tour Berkley once) but we'll have suitcases and might want to take a cab or shuttle if one is available.

sounds like a fine plan. Even with BART you would have to take a cab to the hotel.

Cab would probably cost about $75. Would need the mini-van type.

Limo would probably be about $90

Shuttle would most likely charge per person and would probably be as expensive as a cab.

check to make sure you are not going to rack up a fee to return the car at OAK rather than in SF.

Thanks, Frank. Yes, I will be sure to check on dropping the car in a different locale. Even if we have to spend $75-$100, it might save us a lot of money since the rates on Southwest from Chicago are about half the price of American.

I'm not sure when you're going (and you may already know this), but SW is starting flights again to SFO this fall. Last I knew, they hadn't announced specific date but pass this along just in case....

Check out OAK airport website, ground transportation. You will find answers to all your questions. Flying into OAK should be as convenient as into SFO.

I have taken a limo to and from Oakland to San Fran - and also done the BART - I actually prefer the BART because of traffic - The only thing I like to do is take a cab rather then the "bus" to the BART station from the airport. It is really easy...

We always fly SW from Midway to Oakland. We normally have small rolling suitcases, so taking the Bart is never a problem, especially when staying in Union Square. We've also done taxi or limo if we're feeling lazy. You shouldn't have any problems whatever you decide to do. Also check with your hotel for recommendations.

We're actually flying out this Friday for 3 days in SF and three in the Russian River Valley.
