Oahu - What's your favorite 'to do'
 

Heading to Oahu in a few weeks. I've done Kauai, the Big Island and Maui - and found the &quot;Island Revealed&quot; books excellent - but there isn't one for Oahu.<BR><BR>Staying at the Hilton Alii Tower.<BR><BR>If you had to suggest one thing not to miss - what would it be? (i.e. specific hike, meal, or luau)

Go snorkeling at Hanama Bay! This is a must! (They rent the equipment, too)

Drinks at sunset at the Banyan Terrace at the Moana Hotel.

Aloha SFImporter<BR>For eats I can highly recommend the following;<BR>1) Eggs n Things close to your hotel providing they have reopened afer a fire.<BR>2) If you like garlic and shrimp - Giovani's Shrimp Truck in Kakuku next to the old sugar mill on your drive or bus trip around the island<BR>3) On Jin's close to Nordstrom Rack, Pier 1, Ward Centers. Just heard that she is starting to share not only her excellent culanary skills but also her talented singing on Friday nights (she ran a rest. in Hawaii Kai 6 years ago where she also sang - what a treat!)<BR><BR>Tantalus/Round Top Drive is very beautiful if you have a car. Another nice view can be had from the drive up Sierra Drive to top of Wilhimena Rise.<BR><BR>In Kaneohe there are beautiful Botanical Gardens<BR><BR>Have a wonderful trip!

<BR>I've climb Diamond Head twice. Since they always show Diamond Head on television shows, it is always nice to tell people you've been to the top.<BR><BR>I think Pearl Harbor would have special meaning for most Americans.<BR><BR>Mike Honeycutt

Here's my list in no particular order:<BR>1. Pearl Harbor/USS Arizona Memorial<BR>2. Hike Diamond Head (very fun)<BR>3. N. Shore (great beaches!)<BR>4. Waikiki Beach - not as nice as N Shore but you gotta go <BR>5. Hanuama Bay (swim and snorkel) - go early but go!!<BR>FYI- I would encourage you to rent a car for your stay <BR><BR>

Don't forget the Aloha Stadium Flea Market. I'm on my way there right now!<BR><BR>Aloha!

Second the Eggs'n Things - I was told that they reopened across the street and business is good.<BR>mmmmmm, pecan pancakes and crepes....

If you're an exercise nut you can walk around Diamond Head crater and rest awhile at the lookout point to watch the windsurfers do their thing...that is, if the NE trades or Kona winds are grinding. Also, walk Kailua Beach Park/Lanikai and end up at Buzz's Steakhouse for some cocktails or whatevers! Drive out to Haleiwa village and stand in line with the locals for shave(d) ice and check out the stores. Drive out to the Nu'uanu Pali lookout and hike a portion of the old road trail. (Be sure not to leave any valuables in the car. Lot of crystal meth addicted punks looking for easy cash, unfortunately.)

Have a mai-tai (even if you usually don't like them) in late afternoon in the House Without a Key lounge in Halekulani Hotel on Waikiki Beach. A former Miss Hawaii will be doing the hula with Diamond Head in the background. The surfers will be catching their last waves, you'll smell and feel the salt spray, and you'll be, very simply, in heaven.

<BR>1) Snorkling at Hanauma Bay! The only thing I regret is not spending the entire day there. <BR>2) Climb to the top of Diamond Head. Take a flash light. <BR>3) Take an eco-hiking tour. <BR>

Get out of Waikiki and head up to the north shore! Haleiwa. Go Pipeline and check out the waves. Winter time brings some awesome swells and the waves go off. Watching the local boys surf these big waves is so much fun.

The Bodai In Temple (I KNOW that is spelled wrong) is beautiful. I love a pineapple sorbet after a trip through the hedge maze at the Dole Plaza on a hot day. I would agree with most that the Arizona/Missouri/Pearl Harbor trip is a must. <BR><BR>Don't be mislead, a walk on Waikiki at sunset is one of the best experiences to be had on this planet.<BR><BR>Have fun.

i agree with walking the beach in waikik in front of the hotels, but before catch the show free on the beach by the bronze surfer statue sorry forgot his name , it is a great show and will put you in the mood for the beach walk, starting right there . thats my one. nick
