Oahu trip planning help, please.
 

My husband and I are considering going to Oahu January 27 - February 5 (9 nights). (We were able to use frequent flier miles!!)

We've been to Oahu a few years ago and stayed at the Ihilani Resort. We've never been to Waikiki.

We've been to Maui twice, Kauai twice, the Big Island last year. We love them all. We love to snorkel, hike (small hikes), sightsee. We don't like a lot of fancy food, and we're not really into nightlife.

What we're thinking is spending about 3 nights in Waikiki and then spending 6 nights somewhere else, probably north shore area. I've found some condos on vrbo.com that sound pretty good. One of them is less than $800 per week, so that sounds almost TOO good to me. These are on the grounds of Turtle Bay Resort, but it's about a 5-10 minute walk to the ocean.

We'd like to stay at a place with a pool, and we'd prefer an oceanfront place. These places I've found on vrbo are NOT ocean front.

Does anybody have any ideas? We're watching our budget for this trip.

We've been to Hawaii in June, July, August, October, November, but never in January/Feb., so we're looking forward to seeing whales! I know that surf would be really high on the north shore in the winter, but I thought it would be nice to see some of the high surf.

Another possibility is that we could go to another island for 6 or so nights.

Delta is also holding ff tickets for us directly to Maui from Feb 1-11 for 10 nights, but I wasn't able to find any good deals on places to stay in Maui during that time. If anybody has any ideas on this, that would also work.

We have to decide if we want to take these tickets by Thursday at midnight.

3 nights in Waikiki & 6 nights elsewhere on Oahu is a good idea.

As you've been to all of the islands, you already know what they all have to offer.

Pat's at Punaluu condos.

Beachfront location, beachfront pool, great swimming beach. They are all privately owned so all vary in quality. Many are on vrbo and other sites.

Try Discounthawaiicondos.com for listings. I stayed in their studio unit and it was very nice, I recommend it to my visiting friends and relatives. Many local residents go there for a beach getaway.

The noisy renovations that some had complained about at Pats are finally finished.

Hi we went to oahu easter week last year and got decent rates at Turtle Bay Resort. Keep checking their website for packages. We saw humpback whales every day off of our room and the surf was up so that was amazing to watch as well. I would recommend TBR. Also, on the north shore we saw the Keiki condos- they look nice and are right on the beach. Good Luck and enjoy.

When staying in Oahu, stay away from the pricey and overly rated Royal Hawaiian Hotel. If you willing pay those kind of prices and be in Waikiki, stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village or Halekulani. Both with exceptional service.

There's a number of good hotels with reasonable rates and aloha-spirit in Waikiki. The Breakers, The Hawaiiana Hotel, Royal Grove to name a few.

I just stayed at the condos at Turtle Bay in May. It's less than a 10 min walk to the beach at Turtle bay from the condos furthest from the beach. I think I paid about $125/nt for an off season rate for a recently remodeled 1 bdr, 2 bath. I would go back in a heartbeat.
