Oahu to Maui Flight. Am I leaving myself enough time

Hello all

I am booking my inter-island flight from Oahu to Maui and then back to Oahu.

We are staying in Oahu for five nights. Check out is 11 AM. If we leave for the airport at 11,will we be able to make a 11:55 flight into Kahului Airport? Or should I book the 12:25 flight - which is $89 per person (instead of $39) what's up with that?

Also from Maui back to Oahu, how much time should I allow myself once I leave the hotel in Wailea? I have a 4:45 flight from Oahu to NY. If I take a 2:25 flight from Maui - that's cutting it close, isn't it. The flight before that would be perfect, but its $89....

thank you!

No

That is not enough time to get through the security lines. Remember, you are supposed to be there 90 minutes before takeoff.

Check out earlier. If traffic is bad, you won't make it on the 12:25 flight.

Your return from Maui should be OK at 2:25 because you will already be at the HNL airport for your 4:45 flight.

Allow 45 minutes drive from Wailea, arrive 90 minutes early, so I'd leave Wailea at noon. Never hurts to be early.

Sashie, Ag is right.

Book the 12:25 flight. Leave the hotel by 10:00 a.m-assuming it's in Honolulu. You dont way where you're staying on Oahu. If it's in the Waikiki area, you will run into traffic, even midday--we did two weeks ago for an interisland flight. There was some construction on the NImitz Highway .

$50 is a SMALL additional price to pay to not stress and miss your flight to Maui. This is supposed to be a vacation (R and R) not a hectic rush !

Good Lord, you have to be kidding!

Take the 11:55 and leave the hotel between 9am-930am. Worse that could happen is that you have 30 minutes to kill.

On your return, allow for a 2 hour connection.

Others may think I am paranoid, but I find hanging around for 30 minutes much better than missing a flight because a typical/minor delay.

Thanks very much....I guess I'm not thinking!! We are staying in Waikiki and just assumed we were close to the airport.

Pay more, wait more, but no stress

thanks again

6 miles and lots of traffic!

I'm with TravelTx -- why not take the 11:55 but leave your hotel earlier? Except for sleeping late, what are you going to do with those couple of extra hours in your hotel in Honolulu?

You said the 1155 was 39.00... so it is TOTALLY up to you. You can pay less and wait more or pay more and wait more.

TxTravelPro - Maybe the OP is looking at it this way. They're paying $300 for a hotel room to use from 3pm to 11am. That's about $15 per hour. Leaving at 9am will mean "wasting" $30.

But of course, that's only $15 per person. Less than the difference in airfare cost. Now, if the hotel room is $1,000, then it may make more sense to stay as long as possible. Hahaha.

You need to check out of your hotel, get a taxi, and allow at least 30 mins. to get from Waikiki back to the airport. Plus 1 hour prior to check in for your next flight.

So absolutely no way this is all going to happen in 55 mins!!

Just because check out is 11:00am, doesn't mean you can't leave earlier. I would take the earlier cheaper flight, and plan to be on your way from your hotel between 9:00-9:30am.

But of course, that's only $15 per person.

Maybe they'll have a couple of kids in the room with them, in which case it brings the price down to $7.50 per person per hour

Call me a dummy, but I still don't understand why you wouldn't just leave the hotel 1 hour earlier, instead of paying $50 more per person for the flight. Seems a false economy.
