Low season is generally fall; late Sept. to mid Dec. I don't know if you'll be able to fly intersiland for under $100, maybe more like $150 per person. The 2 carriers are Aloha (alohaairlines.com) and Hawaiian (hawaiianair.com). On O'ahu if you want to stay in Waikiki you can easily get a room for the price range you want, if you are satisfied with being a block or 2 from the water. Also there are cottages and bed and breakfasts around the island. Just do a search for vacation rentals, b and bs, etc., and then narrow it down by the area you are interested in. A good guidebook is Frommer's "Hawai'i from $80 a day".

John

You might be better off booking a package deal. THis will cover your costs for flying to Maui. We normally book our Hawaiian trips to Maui using MLT vacations. I'm not sure where you are flying from, but I'd look into it. They always offer great packages to Oahu and Maui for good prices!!! We live in Michigan and they always have great deals. There website is www.MLTVacations.com. You may want to call them and talk to a representative.
Good Luck... We also go in the fall-October.
Fall is the low season!

We used frequent flyer miles to go between Islands in Dec. 2001. 5,000 United per segment. You can use AA also.
We stayed at the Outrigger Maui Eldorado which is a condo unit on Kanapalli Beach for $95/night using the Entertainment book discount. It was a nicely furnished studio with full kitchen overlooking a golf course with several pools, a very short walk to the beach with a private beach cabana. A short walk through the grounds of the Sheraton next door and you were at a great snorkeling spot.
Keep in mind, December is low season because the weather is not always sunny with calm winds and the ocean might not be very cooperative. We had horrible winds while there and had to find some quiet coves in order to swim or snorkel. Which is not hardship--you'll just need a car.
