Oahu the 2nd time around

Woo hoo! Just bought our tickets to HNL for Spring Break and have our reservation at Royal Grove. This trip is replacing the Austria trip we had planned for the summer. Lots of family things going on and my mom really needed a break soon and one that was more relaxing. My dad and niece (5) will be coming for the 1st time. Cant wait to show them all the great beaches, hikes, sites we saw and find a few new things as well.

My only question is will there be any chance to still see whales the week of April 10-17? If so where should we hang out to catch a glimpse?

Thanks for any help.

In our experience and from what we have read you may spot a few yet as we saw a lone whale on the north coast of Kauai a couple years ago the last week of April.
On Oahu one the best locations is suppose to be Makapuu Point and is quite good scenery even if you don't spot any whales.

Thanks so much. I thought that was the area. Now to get my mom to make the hike again :)

Yes, there is still a decent chance that you might see some whales in April! Good luck! It's an amazing experience to see them in the wild!

If you have the budget for it, you might want to consider going on one of the whale-watching tours.

trvlgirlmq: We have our 9th April trip to Oahu coming up soon. We have seen whales on every trip. Places we have seen the most are Laie Point, Makapuu overlook, the Halona Blowhole overlook, and on catamaran and sightseeing cruises out of Honolulu.

Great information everyone. We are planning to stop a couple times at Halona Blowhole so maybe we will get lucky. Will have to make it a point to stop at Laie when we do a shrimp truck lunch one day.

Makapuu Lighthouse trail is good fro whales. About 2/3 into the hike, you will reach a whale informative sign. That is a really good place to see whales if there are any around. Stop there for 10-15 minutes & scan the ocean. I also see some from atop the lighthouse, but not as many.

Whale watching tours operate until about April 15. So you could take a whale watching tour.

However you decide where to look for whales, do it early during your trip.

Lots of Oahu info:
