Oahu: Sunset beach or Waialua

I'm looking at two different beach houses to rent at the end of August and am looking for advice on which area to stay at. One is on Sunset Beach, the other is in Waialua on the beach. Both are about the same in amenities/accommodations but I'm wondering about the atmospheres of the general area. For example, is sunset beach busier than waialua? Things like that.

Thanks ahead for any advice.

Waialua is a town next to Haliewa town, I can't think of much beach frontage, mainly a harbor. Is the Sunset Beach place right on the beach or perhaps across the street? This is a lovely beach.

Wailua is very much a "locals" town - not much in the way of a tourist atmosphere (but I love the Sugar Bar), altho Haliewa is close by with restaurants, shops, and shave ice. Sunset Beach is only a (beautiful) beach, there is no town.

"Sunset Beach is only a (beautiful) beach, there is no town.

Sunset Beach is only 7 miles from Haleiwa.

Sunset Beach is about 4 miles from Kahuku & just a few more miles to Laie.

For the OP, Sunset Beach would be much better as there are many things to do in the area.

But, Waialua isn't far from anything on the North Shore either.

I also would vastly prefer Sunset Beach, as it is absolutely gorgeous. But you have to really pinpoint the location of each house as much as you can, in order to decide. "oceanfront" in Waialua might be preferable to "oceanview" at Sunset (i.e. on the mountainside with a view of the water a mile away).
