Thanks Simpson! The "large resort/big hotel" comparison is helpful. I know exactly what you're saying.

Like Bonniebroad said....I have a feeling if I tried to save money by staying at the Reef, I'd end up walking by the HHV and wishing I were there!

We stayed in Rainbow Tower at HHV last July and it was great! The feel to me is somewhat Disney World like in that it has it's own little 'community' ie stores, post office, etc.

Do register with their 'club' online so that you will get the perk of speedy check in, which can be long, otherwise.

There are a couple pictures of the room we stayed in at worldisround.com Look under 'olesouthernbelle'. We were on the 29th floor looking towards Diamond Head.

I don't know if this is a consideration for you or not but there may be lots of kids running around at HHV. We visited the grounds last year (stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki) and both noticed a lot of kids. Is there a reason why these are the only two choices?

Hi Tom,

Kids don't bother us -- we love 'em. We spend summers at the Jersey shore with our 17 nieces and nephews, so it won't be a rude awakening!

As far as hotel choice, we ONLY want a beachfront hotel with a nice pool. Our feeling was that the Outrigger Reef was the best budget hotel we saw, and the Hilton was the nicest at our upper limit on price. We looked at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider and Outrigger Waikiki, but those average around $190/night, and the $60 difference wasn't enough to make it a "choice" for us. The hard part was deciding whether we wanted to spend an extra $120 a night to be at HHV instead of going with the budget pick. But after hearing all the raves for HHV, I think it's definitely worth the splurge -- at least for us. But if I'm overlooking a gem, let me know!
