oahu restaurants? recommendations please
Can anyone recommend some restaurants in Oahu? We're spending 7 days on our honeymoon there, so anything would be appreciated (we'll have a car so anywhere on the island is okay).
Please list expensive & inexpensive restaurants! THANKS! |
Sabrina's Italian Restaurant
3036 Waialae Ave Ph 739-0220 BYOB and they don't charge any corkage fee Great authentic Italian Restaurant in Honolulu. Husband and wife (Stefano & Sabrina) from Rome, Italy. Reasonable prices. Great food. I love this place! Aloha! |
Great seafood but pricey - John Dominis Restaurant on the water between Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. Just off Ala Moana Blvd, I think it's Ahui Street. Haven't been there for a few years but I feel pretty sure it's still there.

Duke's and Hula Grill (both in Outrigger Waikiki, and both have nice and casual menus). We found Hula Grill to be excellent!
Haleiwa Joe's was a great place for lunch on the North Shore. Cheeseburgers in Paradise in Waikiki was also good for a casual dinner. |
The food court at the Ala Moana Mall! Rainbow Drive-In and KC Drive-In in Honolulu are great for "local" food as well as any of the L & L locations.

One of the best meals I've had was at La Mer in the Halekulani. Very expensive. -Bill |
Hy's Steakhouse
House Without a Key Hula Grill Duke's |
BigJim:
KC Drive Inn closed a couple of months ago...sad...do more waffle hot dogs washed down with peanut butter ono ono shakes :( Aloha! |

Cabanas at the Mandarin.

Boots & Kimos in Kailua for Macadamia pancakes - yummy! My friend licks the plate (that's how good they are)!
Willows (local style brunch buffet). Alan Wong's for dinner (expensive - very!) Prince Court at the Prince Hotel (very good buffet). I second the Sunday Brunch at John Dominis - good food, nice ambience, good service, expensive. Chai's at Aloha Tower is good too and they have live local music nightly I believe. Here too is quite expensive. The Cabanas at the Kahala Mandarin is very romantic for your honeymoon. They have these white tents on the beach and they serve you dinner. Then to the left of that, is a peninsula that you can walk out on and sit by the ocean and look at the stars - very romantic (top spot for after the prom!). Have fun - I hope you enjoy our islands. |
The Sunday Morning brunch at the Moana Surfrider..reservations are usually a must (we've already made ours for Christmas morning)..the view from the porch is great. Do it once if you can get in.

Inexpensive: Andy's Sandwich Shop in Manoa, up the hill from Waikiki, It's in a wonderful residential part of honolulu, on E. manoa Road. It looks like a "hole in the wall" from outside but has delish s'wiches and hot meals and baked goods--and it's a real "locals" place. It's next to the Starbucks, and acrosss from Manoa Marketplace outdoor shopping area. While at M M'place you can get a nice souvenir--prints or even inexpensive original paintings-- by local artists--at the art gallery in the shopping center, nr the Post Office end. Afterward you can drive up Manoa Road to the arboretum at the top, for a wonderful romantic (but muddy!!) hike in a rain forest...wtihout ever leaving Honolulu.
That's one of my favorite wasy to spend a Honolulu afternoon! MMore inexpnsive but ONOlicious--Great hamburgers behind the Ward Warehouse (or Ward Center??always get those confused) called Kua Aina ??? There's also one on the NO Shore in Haleiwa. Good shave ice N Shore on Haleiwa, OR Waiola Shave Ice in Waikiki area. Don't know if you've been to HI before, but having a good shave ice is part of the food ritual there! Try to get to the courtyard at the Sheraton Maona Surfrider for a drink, or food. Historic old banyan tree there , beautiufl Waikiki beachside setting. As IAMQ mentions Halekulani! Haven't been myself to La Mer, but it's supposed to be incredible, and romantic. They have another restaurant called Orchids (great food, at least at T'giving ) and a lounge/bar House Without a Key, where you can listen to music and watch hula at night on the edge of Waikiki--all romantic for a honeymoon. CONGRATULATIONS!! What a great way to start your married life! |
