Nick's Fishmarket was the best dinner we had during our trip to Oahu and Maui this past Spring.

Carol, We leave Sat.(21st).I've been composing my list for weeks now. How about C & C Pasta?

Or Parc Cafe for their buffets at the Waikiki Parc Hotel?

From what I've learned from other posts -Zippy's lunch plates are LOADED with fat!

I've also seen several references to cheap eats at Chinatown.

When are you guys leaving?

We head to Hawaii in November!!

Wheww... I'd love to rise to the occasion, but I'm exhausted at the prospect of commenting on all of these. I think Diamond Head Grill is under new management at the W hotel. The rest are for the most part there. You have quite a few neighbohood eateries and budget places thrown in with four-star restaurants. You might also want to check the zagat listings for oahu and alohachefs.com for actual menus from the four-stars listed above.

k

Oh yeah, Pacific Cafe is no longer there, and I do not recommend Padovannis.

C & C is a casual tiny little restaurant in Kaimuki with great fresh pastas, and wonderful cheeses, olives, foie gras, etc. You can have dinner there, byob. We usually do take-out.

Here's some photos:

http://www.hawaiibid.com/candcpastacompany/

http://www.hawaiibid.com/candcpastacompany/

Kalena, you have just reminded me....it is time for lunch!!

Anyway, I am very sad to say that Cafe Monsarrat is no longer there. A new restaurant called Tavola Tavola took its place, but I don't know if it is any good. My goodness, I would eat at just about any of those restaurants except Brew Moon!

I actually liked Padovani's but it is super expensive. I am also a huge fan of C&C Pasta, and just about every restaurant near it. Maybe you can have dinner at C&C then walk down the street to Cafe Laufer for a fab dessert.

I like Chai's Island Bistro. He's a great supporter of good, local musicians. For epicurean food, Alan Wong is still the King. When I want to pig out on the cheap, I head for Waialae Chop Suey for a bowl of their gigantic and ono-licious Chicken Wor Mein!

www.alohachef.com am I spelling chef wrong? The cook person.

anyway this restuarant will show you pictures of entrees.

Alan Wong's is a don't miss

3660 on the Rise, Roy's are also great! John Dominis ok but I don't think great.

How about a formal, yet festive place a family of 10 can go to for Christmas Eve...and then another one for Christmas Day on Oahu??? Service would obviously be a top priority along with food. We are going with another family, and I need to think about this. Any ideas? I liked the Hano Hano room myself...at the Sheraton on Waikiki.

Carol:

Our favorite was Duke's on Waikiki Beach, the prices are exceptionally fair for the location, the food outstanding, it's one of the places locals like. You need reservations, otherwise expect to wait. They also offer an outdoor area right along the beach with a lighter menu. WE found it to be one of the better values in Wakiki.

L&L are fast food plate lunch restaurants, lots of carbs, rice, macaroni salad, and some decent meat/fish. Price is right.

If you check the newspaper's entertainment section online, you'll find an uptodate rating of restaurants by the locals, which will include some places not listed in any guidebooks.

A relative on the Island took us to a place called the Willow's. took the bus. a great Buffet, Outside & only $25.00 each. we really enjoyed it. The best meal was at Bali's by the Sea in the Rainbow Tower of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Ocean front table, Superb food & service. and delicious deserts. Expensive. Vince

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

I ate at Chai's last night and it was wonderful!! All the food is great. I think the only thing was, the tiramisu was so-so and the creme brulee was divine. I think the other dessert items are supposed to be good, but their main attractions are the appetizers and entrees. They have live local music 7 days a week, too. Reservations are probably recommended--last night's particular concert had a wait-list for seating!
