Oahu questions
We have a couple of nights stopover in Honolulu on route to mainland USA. We have been there before so have done the main tourist things. We haven't been to Sealife Park or the Waimea Adventure Park, has anyone any feedback on these. Also I found some nature tours on the Net which sound quite good, has anyone been on one of these? I should add I am travelling with my husband and 13 year old son.
Thanks for all you responses to my other posts, the holiday is coming together quite nicely. |
You might want to try Kualoa Ranch.
Turtle Bay Hotel is just great if you are looking for a hotel. SeaLife Park might be a little boring for a 13yr old. |
Waimea Adventure Park is now just an Audubon park.

Aloha Martha,
Waimea is run by the Audubon, but well worth a trip through... just there in the 1st week of April and enjoyed the flora & fauna and especially the peacocks roaming free everywhere... we didn't hike to the falls, not sure what's offered, but may be well worth checking into. The north shore is a wonder... many great spots to experience... Kaena Point, the many beaches including the beach where the turtles sun on the rocks and sand during low tide... the drive up the windward coast is breathtaking, many great spots. Must agree w/ Tinam that Kualoa Ranch is breathtaking. Lunch at one of the shrimp trucks, or Kua 'Aina in Haleiwa, shave ice at A'okis. The north shore is really low key, and very much Hawaii aloha flavor... don't miss experiencing it, even during a short time on O'ahu. Depending upon what time of year you're there, Sharks Cove may be superb snorkeling... Aloha, and happy planning. |
I agree with other posters...go to the No. Shore and try stuff up there.
My favorite shrimp place(mouth watering currently) is the Kuhuku Sugar Mill Shrimp place. It is right behind the Gas Station. The garlic shrimp scampi was to die for!!! Shark's Cove was very fun for snorkeling. Hanauma Bay was better...but Shark's Cove is FREE! Loved the small bannanas and fresh coconut from the side of the road stands! The whole east side of the island was breathtaking. My group is normally true blue loyal Kauai fans...but we may have converted due to the things we saw on the east side of the island. The beaches were like right out of a tour book...and nobody was there. I'm from CA and finding a deserted beach is like discovering the 8th wonder of the world :)) Bellows Beach is outstanding!!! Perfect beach in my opinion. Only open to the public on the weekends (Friday-Sunday) Oh...I could go on....what a wonderful place!!! Just got back a month ago and already planning a trip for October! :) Have fun!!!!! |
Thanks so much for your comments, as we are not renting a car, I think we will just get on the Bus and head north and get off where we feel like.
