Oahu North Shore recommendations?
We are considering going to Oahu the week before Christmas and staying on the North Shore. Looking for a reasonable cottage or b&b within walking distance to surfing spots (we don't surf but love to watch!). Any recommendations? Thanks!

We stayed at Santa's by the Sea on the North Shore last month. It is right on the beach near the Banzai Pipeline - there are tons of surfers to watch and huge waves. It is basically a duplex and the owners live on the top and rent out the bottom. The guest unit has a seperate entrance with a bedroom, kitchen and living room. The owners stock your fridge with cereal, milk, eggs, fruit, coffee, etc. We booked through Hawaii's Best B&Bs , but I think you can also book directly.

luvtravl, WE are going to the North
Shore the week before Christmas to
watch surfing...that's funny...
I was kind of looking at condos
at/near Turtle Bay/cove? So that we
could walk over there and eat or get
coffee, or drinks...On www.vrbo.com there are quite a few. Have you checked there yet?

We too stayed at Santa's last month. Highly recommend it. We rented directly through the owners. Super people, not intrusive at all. Can walk to the pipeline, they were running the Monster competition while we were there. Place is right on the beach. Can't get much better than that!

We stayed at the north shore in September. Rented a condo at the Turtle Bay resort. This is not walking distance, but a short drive to the surfing beaches. We looked at renting a house on vrbo, but were a bit afraid of what we might get (some are a little run-down). I would recommened the turtle bay condos if you don't mind the drive. By the way, you can walk to the resort from the condos and enjoy the beach and the restaurant at the golf course (lei lei's) is wonderful!

Message to beachkomer - we did use vrbo to book our turtle bay condo, it was # 52066 and we just loved it! The pool area was close and very nice, and the grounds are really beautiful. As for the hotel restaurants we only liked the golf course one called Lei Lei's - we tried the buffet restaurant and it was overpriced and bland. Hope this helps!
