Oahu North Shore Hotels
Looking for North Shore moderately priced hotel right on the beach.
|
Have you tried the Turtle Bay Hilton?
|
have they finished their renovations. i was visiting there last december and it was such a mess with half the hotel all draped over and noisy trucks, etc. i think they are fixing it up because it looked in pretty rough shape from what i saw.

No longer a Hilton, if that matters

Marie, we just returned from north shore Oahu 3 weeks ago. Drove all along it many times and saw not one single hotel, even motel, other than Turtle Bay Hilton, which I guess is probably not "moderately priced". But can recommend north shore stay - we LOVED it. Very casual - lived in our swimsuits. We rented oceanfront cottage in Mokuleia area. I also saw some buildings that MAY have been condos.....

Turtle Bay Hilton is the only hotel on the north shore. You'll have to rent a house or a condo if you want an alternative to the Turtle Bay Hilton on North Shore.

Hilton has sold Hilton Turtle Bay to another resort company. Does not matter much because while I enjoyed my stay the facility in my mind never reached the status of other Hiltons in the islands. Having said that I would not stay anywhere else on the north shore of Oahu.

When you get there make sure to check out the view of your rooms first. You might get a shlocky view but if you complain they will accommodate. The horse back riding is a steal at $35 an hour and the only place I have been that offers you a walk on the beach. You can run if you know what you are doing and get on an appropriate level trail ride.

Walk out to the back of the hotel and walk on the rocks you will find pools of rock salt Hawaiians use. I think this hotel is a great value. We were there in August Construction was going on but it did not interfere with our stay at all. Construction was scheduled to cease by late August. Let us know how you liked it.

You could rent a house as an alternative www.vacationspot.com as start. Renting can be great but it is a gamble. This summer we had a rental also on the Windward side. We used Pat's Kailua rentals, what a mistake. No curtains in the bedroom that faced ocean. We had 7am sun on our pillows every morning. We had to pay a cleaning fee but entered a messy apartment, sand on the floor and towels in both the washer and dryer. Agency was not helpful to us on Linens we needed for beds or curtains as I mentioned. We thought it unusual that they could not provide us with a blanket for one bed that did not have any. They had the blankets on hand but said they did not provide for this unit. Such poor customer service. On Kauai in Hanalei with another agency can only remember name of agent "Diane Oliver" (you can find her on internet) we had all that you would expect and more in our rental. We have high high praise for her. But you see when you put both experiences together you find that rentals can be a gamble.
Surprisingly Hilton Turtle bay was moderately priced $140 for mountain view or ocean without lanai, $160 with Lanai. Remember I was there in high season of mid August.I thought the was a remarkable rate comparing with other hotels on Oahu and the absolute seclusion you have at Turtle Bay. I will definately go again.

Re: Sarah's message regarding north shore cottage rentals - we also found ours on vacationspot.com and it was a gem! $100/night, beachfront cottage pristine (duplex, not fancy but large and clean), all supplies we could possibly want, lots of linens/beach towels, private (even though it is in a group of cottages), VERY nice people and helpful on-site manager, beautiful grounds (palm trees off lanai and 6 paces to beach) - I guess we got very lucky.....
