Oahu Midnight Flight
 

We are spending five nights in Oahu at the Ko Olina. We leave at midnight on the sixth night. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do from the time we checkout until our midnight flight.<BR><BR>Would it be better to turn the car in, not pay for an extra day, and get a cheap room at a hotel with a shuttle to the airport? Or keep the car, leave the luggage in the trunk and find some shops, restaurants, etc. to fill the time.<BR><BR>Any suggestions?

Get a room for the day.

Hi ya,<BR><BR>I will be doing the same thing as you, 5 night package and flying out midnight on the 6th day.<BR><BR>In these situations I usually get my luggage to the airport and hire a locker for the day. ( assuming they have lockers of course)<BR><BR> This frees me up to carry on on the last day without having to worry too much about anything but getting back to the airport for my flight. <BR><BR>Check with your hotel, sometimes they will happily store your luggage for you.<BR><BR>Christa<BR><BR>

Pay for an extra day on the car - you might want to check on renting it for a week to receive a better rate and then turn it in a day early- and then stow your bags with the concierge at the Ko'Olina. The big hotels also generally have day rooms available to guests in your situation at no additional charge. These rooms allow you a place to change clothes, crash, etc. You can also keep your room account open until you leave. This is a much nicer option than a hotel near the airport, you don't want to drive around Honolulu with bags in your trunk and the lockers at the airport are no longer available. Think of this as an extra play day. We've done red-eyes a number of times and the hotels have always been very accommodating.

My wife and I had this same situation on our honeymoon this past February, having a midnight flight out of Kauai. We were at the Princeville and even though we had to check out at noon(?), they held our bags for us for the remainder of the day and (as kip suggested) gave us a complimentary room for a couple of hours to shower and freshen up before heading over to the airport. Check if your hotel offers the same service....what a luxury!
