Oahu info?
My boyfriend and I will be going to Oahu for a long weekend in late October. Are there any recommendatoins of things not to miss(parks, restaurants, etc)? We will be there for 4 days.

Spend some time on Waikiki - still one of the best beaches in the world!. That's why it gets crowded at times.
The Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is a sobering experience and a must to understand the history of the state. Spend some time at the PCC to appreciate native Polynesian cultures and to have some fun. A Circle Island tour, whether on your own or with a paid group, should include Pali lookout, the scenic north shore, Byodo-In Buddhist temple. Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay is fun and many people do the Diamond Head hike. If you still have time you can work in the Hawaiian Monarchy buildings - the Iolani Palace, the Bishop Museum, etc. |
Aloha lizchex,
The best source of info about "not to miss" activities on this site will be found by doing a search under Oahu, Hawaii. You'll read for hours... the info is invaluable! That may be why you don't have many replies. Enjoy Hawaii! Aloha! |
A romantic dinner at sunset at the Hanohano Room in the Sheraton. Salsa lessons and dancing to a live band at the Esprit Lounge in the same hotel on Sunday nights.
Dining with bellydancers at Pyramids. A picnic in Kapiolani Park. Sunday breakfast buffet at Haliewa Joe's in Kaneohe with the mountain view. Followed by a romantic stroll through the state park in Kaneohe. Swimming at Bellows beach on Saturday. A drive around the island stopping at the fruit stands and art galleries. |
Kayak to the islands from Kailua beach.

If you have not been to Asia or to any Asian communities in the United States, you should visit Chinatown, Hawaii's most exotic and mysterious neighborhood.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce offers a tour on Tuesdays, 9:30 am, call 533-3181. The Chinese Culinary Arts Society has a tour on Thursdays, 9 am, $7.50, $10 with dim sum brunch included. This tour is more focused. |
Waikiki one of the best beaches in the world? I don't think it is the best beach on Oahu, let alone one of the best in the world. In fact, Waikiki does not rate highly at all as beaches go.

I recommend driving to the North Shore to see the Best Beaches on the island. If you go up there, Sunset Beach is nice and so is Waimea Beach. There are several other small beaches. Just pack a picnic and go for the day. If you like snorkeling, don't miss shark's cove. I have been to Oahu three times and the last visit was the first time I ventured to the North Shore. I won't go to Oahu again without revisiting the beauty of the North Shore! I recommend that more than Waikiki! If you want some good dining in Waikiki, try the Veranda at the Sheraton Moana Hotel (outside dining in the courtyard with the largest banyan tree you have ever seen, overlooking the beach at sunset!)or an elegant indoor restaurante Hy's. Very elegant. Both can get pricy. Have fun!
