Oahu Hotel Equus

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Equus in Honolulu? It looks pretty good on its website - if you don't want a big resort. We will only be in Oahu for 3 nights and are considering this hotel. Thought I would check with all you experts.

Thanks!

hi toniseid, i noticed you posted twice about this. you can just click on your screen name, post a reply "ttt" or whatever and it will bring your post to the top of the list, k? okay.

i haven't heard of hotel equus, so i checked it out. it used to be the polo inn, which was a dive (you had to wear shoes inside the room otherwise your feet turn black) and i never book there! now i probably will. from the pics, the rooms looked very nice. funny what alittle paint will do.

here's the link i found

i hope we're talking about the right place, it sounds like a good deal.

Thanks, kauai_aka

I sent it twice because I didn't include Hawaii in the list. Thanks for the link, too.

If we go to Hotel Equus, I'll let everyone know what it is like. We're going at the end of January.

I would not want to stay near Ala Moana center (as the review describes the location). I prefer to be within central Waikiki so I can easily walk to everything I want to do.

Ahhh...so THAT'S what happened to the old Polo Inn! Evidently the new Aqua chain took over that one, too. Aqua has been renovating a few of the smaller Waikiki hotels in the couple of years.

Here's the Equus blurb from "O`ahu Revealed", complete with photos:

It is about a one mile stroll to the center of Waikiki. It is close to Ala Moana Center & Ala Moana Beach Park & Magic Island. Right across from Ilikai Hotel.

Here are a couple maps of most Waikiki hotels & condos:

This one has a good magnification feature:

I looked into the Equus and a couple of other Aqua hotels in that Ala Moana area. I decided there was too much construction near those hotels. I'd suggest looking into the studio condos at the Illikai, nearby but set back by the harbor.

Thanks, everyone. Auntiemaria, I love the wizard site! I have made all our reservations - we are spending 3 nights on Oahu, 8 on Kauai, 5 on Hawaii, 3 on Molokai, & 3 on Maui. Now I can see where we are going and maybe change some along the way. It's our first trip to HI.

Ok what is the "Wizard Site?"

dusty56438 Nov 2nd, 2007 08:50 PM

Wizard site is the one above posted by antiemaria.

It is the site of the 'Revealed' series of books. Oahu Revealed, Maui revealed, etc.

www.wizardpub.com

You can look at aerial views of most of the hotels & condos on the site.

...and in addition to the book's reviews of each listing, they provide links to each one's own website.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but we did go to Hawaii and stayed at the Hotel Equus.

We look for places in the location we want that are decent but not very pricy. This filled the bill. The room was very nice and I would recommend the hotel.

We've stayed there twice, and it is one of Oahu's best value's. We got it last time on a last minute booking site, and it was a great deal. It isn't my very favorite hotel, but then for the money....

I posted a review of it on our site.
