I've booked a condo via vrbo.com. It's located 444-Nahua in Central Waikiki about a block from the beach. We will be staying there for 7 nights (June 5-12). Our return flight leaves the evening of the 16th, so we need to find accommodations for 4 more nights. Should we look to visit another island for four nights? Is there enough to do in Oahu? If so, suggestions on where I should look for accommodations for the last four nights?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

There is plenty to see & do on Oahu. But Kauai is small & you could see it easily in 4 days.

444 Nahua is a decent condo. But it is more like 2-3 blocks from the beach. Located almost directly behind International Market Place in the center of Waikiki.

If you need a condo in Waikiki for the other 4 days, Resortquest Waikiki Banyan is a condo & is fairly inexpensive.

I agree you have plenty to do if you stay on Oahu but 4 days would also be perfect to visit one of the smaller Islands such as Kauai (although still Hawaii they are a world apart in comparison with each other). I think if you are coming all the way here you might as well take a small side trip to catch one of Hawaii's most beautiful Islands (Kauai). The inter-island flights are very reasonable and they take only a half hour or so.

Plenty to do on Oahu, but 4 days is also enough time to go a second island. I liked Maui alot. Or you could stay on Oahu but move up to the North Shore instead of Waikiki for those last 4 days.

We spent 7 nights in Honolulu over spring break and there was plenty to do. So much that we didn't even get to, so booked another trip. Our teens never got bored and were the ones asking to visit again.

We spent 7 nights on Oahu two years ago and are going back in May for 8 more nights. And.....we never went to Waikiki one time on the first visit! There is lots to see and do. The North Shore is heavenly (very calm and good snorkeling in the summer) and we could spend a week there every year. We have also been to Maui, Kauai and the Big Island and plan to return to each of them. If the lava is still flowing into the sea on the Big Island, you may want to consider going there since it may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see it. Whatever you decide to do you can't go wrong. Have a wonderful trip!

If your son is lobbying for Maui, I say, "why not?" Depends what he's looking for, though. IMHO, Maui is the next most "civilized" after Oahu. For a more rural feel and to see different things, you might want to opt for Kauai or the Big Island.

The Big Island has the active volcanoes, which to me is a real sight. Also, Shanghainese, a longtime poster on this board, said she went to a SEAHORSE FARM on the Big Island! How cool is that for a 14 year old??

On the other hand, since you asked if there's enough to do on Oahu for 7 nights......if you decide to spend your entire vacation there, YES, there's more than enough to see and do. There's tons of city stuff and tons of country stuff to enjoy. You might want to get a place on the North Shore or in the Kailua area for the second half of your trip.

I am in agreement with those who suggest you go with your son's desire to spend the four days on Maui.

I'd try to pin down what exactly it is about Maui that interests your son. If it's something specific like seeing Haleakala (which is amazing), then maybe consider it. If it's just because a friend said it was the best than maybe not.

Still my answer is a definite YES that there's plenty to see and do for a week on Oahu including things outside of only Waikiki.
