Oahu Confusion
 

I am planning on staying in Oahu for 2 weeks in end of July. After reviewing all of the internet info I am confused about where to stay. The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, Aston Waikiki, Hilton Village,or a condo like Waikiki Shore on the beach? I'm a single woman, middle aged and don't need the bar scene. Any feedback, recommendations would be helpfull. I've read answers to others and they were very helpful.

what sort of activities are you looing to do? this will have a bearing on where you are best staying.When we spent three weeks on Oahu last November we had a couple of meals in the Hilton and I found it to be very sprawling and over large.the Outrigger Waikiki has a fantastic location and Dukes bar is great(and not really "bar scene" if you know what I mean) BUT there pool is very small and overlooked by people in the bar. we had a room with cooking facilaties(sp?) but we did not cook once .

P.S do not let anyone tell you not to spend two weeks on Oahu we loved it and are planning to go back again this year.

I'd recommend a splurge at the Halekulani. It is not that more expensive than the HHV or Outrigger at Waikiki, but the difference in food quality, service and quiet ambience is noticeable and worth the extra price. For example, the pool is heated. Another nice touch is the House Without a Key. Stop by in the evening and watch Kano'e Miller, a former Miss Hawaii dance the hula to the music of a three man band. A classy experience you won't find at other hotels.

Why would anyone want a heated pool in Hawaii ?

I would choose Outrigger((Y))It's proximity to the shopping and beach as well as being very close to the park, make it a good choice for a single traveler. I found the music ((8)) from downstairs quite soothing. I don't like crowds either. The lobby is open and they have free craft classes that really are fun. You can also attend a show right in the hotel. I agree the pool is not that attractive due to it's location, but the beach is RIGHT there! Youu can catch the open air trolley at the statue to go to the large shopping mall also. Wish I had a trip there in the works!((R))

Outrigger rooms are small and the hotel is busy and noisy at night with Duke's. It's great for breakfast though. I would always choose a place on the beach. And a hotel over a condo down there.

Just wanted to second that idea for House Without a Key and watching the former Miss Hawaii dance the hula with the beach and Diamond Head in the background at sunset! This was the absolute high point of my three year stay in Hawaii, and you don;t have to stay at Halekulani to do it!

I would nopt recommend the Outrigger Waikiki if you are looking for peace and quiet! Dukes can get very rowdy on the weekend, lots of loud music. The lobby is enclosed, lots of shopping, very busy place.

If you can afford the Halekulani or the Royal Hawaiian, I would highly recommend! Both are like an oasis in bustling Waikiki.

We recently stayed at Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and we loved it. We were on the 15th floor with a beach front room and had no trouble with noise. Lower rooms might be a problem. The service was great and we loved the convenience of the hotel.

Someone on the board did suggest Halekulani. I have stayed there and was overjoyed at the beauty and elegance at this hotel. The prices are a little higher but the dollars are worth it. You will feel like a tru traveler in an excellent location on Waikiki. It is perfect for what you are looking for.

My sister and I just returned last week from Oahu. We loved the Ko'Olina area and would choose to stay their next time in a heart beat. We liked the more layed back quietness there and it was so beautiful. There are 4 lagoons there that are perfect for swimmng and all. Great food and the JW Marriott Ilani is very nice. Only 20-30 minutes from Waikiki and close (10 min) to the Aloha Stadium for the swap meet on Wed, Sat and Sun ... a must go at about 1/2 the price of hawaiian stuff you would buy in the stores. Our fav for great sun, sports, food!!
