Oahu - but no time for Waikiki
 

Looking for Oahu hotel in the <$150 range, with onsite restaurants, bar, pool, parking, and AWAY from Waikiki crowds. (Our beach time is planned for Maui.)

We will driving to Pearl Harbor,Punch Bowl, Bishop Museum, and Poly/Cultural center.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I found it interesting that the Polynesian CC has already charged my credit card for two adults, no discount, even though I told them I had the entertainment card!

The reply was that they would accept it at the time of admission. I didn't expect to be charged before I arrived! Belle.

There are so many reasonable hotels within a few blocks of Waikiki. Even if you don't want to "do" the beach there, you would still enjoy being near the action. Yes, it's a beach in a city - but, what's wrong with that? It's Hawaii for goodness sake!

Last trip we made the effort to stop in Waikiki for a two or three days, mainly to visit USS Arizona and so on. I was quite ready to not like the place (crowds, city etc) but in fact we both liked it a lot and plan to layover there again.
We stayed at the Outrigger Luana but it has no restaurant although there are several within a couple of hundred yards - Keo's right opposite, TGIFriday's in Ohana Maile Sky Court (a good budget place) very close, Nick's Fish Market, fancy Japanese restaurant next door and so on.

How do they know you really have the Entertainment card? Probably just charge the regular amount then credit back the discount when you present them with your card. Just guessing.

You might try the Ohana hotels. Usually less exp and possibly more city center.

How about the Prince Hotel or the Ala Moana Hotel? Both are on the edge of Waikiki, close to the beach, shopping, and have all the other stuff you're looking for. That way if you change your mind about Waikiki, you are not that far away.

I'm in Kauai right now and checked out of the the Prince a few days ago. It's a nice place at the West end of Waikiki but far from the maddening crowds. However, if you get the urge to stroll the scene, the Prince has a very reliable shuttle service that starts at noon and runs on the half hour until 10 pm. It stops at 4 locales throughout Waikiki. My rate through Hotwire was approx $200 p/n. If you do stay here, be sure to have a meal and/or drinks at the Chart House nearby.

Hakone, the Japanese on site rest., has a 2 for 1 coupon in the Ent. book E(entrees run from $25-33). Parking is metered across the street (but hardly enforced)but they do have on site parking for a fee.
