oahu beaches
we are planning a holiday to oahu and wondered about what items to take for the beach and ideas about how to keep things safe while we are in the water.....any ideas?

Never had a problem with unattended beach items, just make sure you do the obvious and not leave valuables in plain site or flash them around. Take a disposable type camera for the day if you want to snap pics, for instance, instead of an expensive camera. The fact is, beach thefts are a lot less common than auto break-ins.

I agree, you need to be more concerned about what's in your car than what's on your blanket. Be careful not to park where there is broken glass in the area because that means thieves have been smashing windows to break into cars. The worst area for this is Waimanalo on the windward side and the Waianae coast on the west side but it can and does happen at other places as well.

We were on the windward side near Kailua and some tourists just left their bag for 5 minutes when one of the locals attempted to steal it. Watch the parking lots, there was a gang of thieves in this parking lot. When confronted the thief ran off the beach before he could be caught.

I don't take anything of value. Just $10 and a license.
