No, nanabee. (Although my husband wanted to join the navy, but then he met me and that didn't happen)!!! Thanks for the suggestion, though.

BuffaloGirl, too bad you booked your flight because US Airways does go to Kauai. I have flown to Kauai several times on US Airways. The airport code is LIH for Lihue.

I am with wekewoody and Songdoc in the North Shore camp. Our first trip to Kauai, in May 2007, we split north and south shore. Every trip back we are only on the north shore. It is your first time so you should split your time to see what you like. Hopefully, you will return and spend all your time on the north shore! Also, like Songdoc, I stay at the Sealodge every trip.

http://hestara.com/b10.htm This unit is $140 per night; we have stayed here twice.

http://www.summitpacificinc.com/sealodge-e9.html I would like to stay in this unit!

Our first trip, when we split our time, we stayed here on the south shore: http://www.kuhio-shores.com/

louistraveler5: I misspoke. You are correct. However, whenever I tried to book to Kauai (and I tried several times) I either got the message below (or an error message).

"""We’re unable to find flights for the cities you searched. Please try different cities or dates, or search by:
•Multi-city
•Nearby airports
•Low Fare Finder (choose Low Fare Finder under 'Search by')
•Route map"""

I don't know if it has something to do with using FF miles or not. I've tried to book a separate flight Honolulu to Kauai, and I get the same message.

If I didn't have my head up my arse when I first started planning this trip, it might have occurred to me to call. But, alas....I did not!

The more I re-read everyone's posts, the more I'm thinking of just staying on the north shore and then maybe spend a few more days on Oahu's north shore. I've been sort of nixing that idea, the more I look into it, the more appealing it's becoming!
