Oahu 50th anniversary dinner help
My folks will be staying at the Royal Hawaiian Sheraton on the 50th anniversary on October 16. Where can we send them that would be the right dinner for this celebration? A friend suggested Alan Wong's, with a table on the lanai. I'm open to any suggestions in Waikiki and Honolulu. Thanks!

Make them a reservation at Le Mer at The Halekulani Hotel. Ask for a table on the outside area closest to the beach. I think the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and a table by the end close to the beach may be outside or at least with a large open window. I was their with my wife on her birtday several years ago. Very very nice. One of the best in the U. S.

Le Mer is divine...but the prices are sky-high:
http://www.halekulani.com/i/download...ntree_Menu.pdf We recommend one of our favorites -- Orchids...ground level, same view, same great service, equally-wonderful food...and definitely not quite as wallet-busting: http://www.halekulani.com/i/download...inner_Menu.pdf And let's not forget Moana Surfrider's dreamy Banyan Veranda...within easy walking distance of the Royal Hawaiian where the folks will be staying: http://www.moanasurfrider.com/de_veranda.htm |
I agree with everyone.
If price is no object, La Mer is a wonderful venue. Probably the most romantic venue locally that I have experienced (although Princeville in its prime must have been an awesome experience). Orchids and Banyan Veranda are also nice. In comparison, Alan Wong's food is is a culinary adventure, but you are, after all, in the upper floor of a non-descript building in a non-descript neighborhood. If my idea of romance was food preparation, I might go with Alan Wong. If my romance was about the soft wash of the waves, a fading sunset, and bright Mediterannean flavors (La Mer) or local highlights (Orchids), I would go to the Halekulani. |
I found the Banyan Veranda incredibly romantic. Go at sunset. Let them know it's a special occasion (I was given a lei and a rose when it was my birthday).
