Oaha

Im going to Oaha for the first time......I need some advice on a VERY good tour for Pearl Harbor? I am staying at the JW Mariott and could also use some advise on some places in the area to eat breakfast dinners? Any other help would help.
Also snorkeling for someone who isnt a swimmer...thanks

Karin, The free Navy tour of Pearl Harbor on the Island of Oahu is a wonderful tour. You will see a film before going that helps you see how things really happened and give you a better understanding of the Arizona Memorial. Then the Navy launch takes you to the Arizona Memorial, which is a structure built over the USS Arizona. You are allowed to go onto the memorial, which a lot of tours do not. Some only take a boat around it. After leaving that I recommend you drive or take THE BUS (city transport) up to Punch Bowl Cemetary to see the beautiful yet sad row upon row of graves of those who died in the Pacific. Also go to the memorial that is in the punchbowl.
Snorkeling for non-swimmers is easy at Haunauma Bay.

There are many wonderful places to eat and I hope you are adventurous and will try the local cuisine. It's not necessarily WHERE you eat, but What you eat! Get a Bento Box from a Japanese restaurant, eat some Siamin with SPAM, Shave Ice, etc. Ask fellow travellers where they had a good meal, they will have the absolute latest scoop! Because cooks change, menus change, etc., food quality can vary from week to week! Another suggestion for a real good look at the islands, is to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center. The various islands are all represented with natives from each island performing and talking to you. It is pricey but so worth it. Enjoy

While I agree that Hanauma Bay is good for people who aren't particularly comfortable in the water, it's still the ocean. If you can't swim or aren't a strong swimmer, please wear a life vest at all times. A quick search of this forum will bring up a few threads about drownings in Hawaii -- just because it's paradise doesn't mean you can let your guard down!

FYI--the island is Oahu. When you do a search on this board, plug in Oahu and you will find a lot of information!

There are a couple of restaurants in the resort. More in Kapolei.

Most of Oahu's restaurants are in Honolulu and Waikiki.

Several good restaurants in Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Good restaurant guide & maps:

Lots to do on Oahu:
