NYC which airport?

Distance isn't always the best way to select an airport. What are the pro's and con's of each airport for 8 people with luggage needing transportation into the city.

Doesn't look like there's a big price difference between the airports.

LaGuardia is the easiest and fastest to get into Midtown. In most cases, the cheapest taxi fare.

LaGuardia is closest to Manhattan. You can get two cabs. NYC law is that cabs cannot take more than 4 people in one cab (and that's a squeeze unless you get one of the new jeep type cabs).

thanks, that was consistent. I'll check those flights to this airport only.

I usually use LGA - often the best prices, but be aware that both arrivals and departures often quite delayed at that airport.

I found that rates were much cheaper to fly into Newark...I heard that Newark isn't any worse than JFK or La Guardia...is that true? Should I have gone with LGA as well? Oh no...

Assuming you are going to midtown Manhattan taking a taxi is the most economical way to go (not counting public transportation). Two cabs, LGA to city, will cost around $50. FRom JFK two cabs will cost close to $90. EWR to city, two cabs will cost close to $!00. a car service (2 cars) will cost close more than $60. CAR service from JFK and EWR will be a couple of dollars more than a YEllow cab. The above estmates are with tip and toll included.

If you want to get to Manhattan in a quick manner, La Guardia (if you exclude the heavy air traffic) is the optimal choice. This was our airport of choice when we lived on the Upper Westside & again on the Upper Eastside. Newark is a wash with La Guardia if you are travelling from midtown (there is a coach bus that you can take from Newark to the Bus Terminal). JFK I have found useless for anything other than international flights. It is a long ride if you take the subway or an expensive cab ride. I would only fly into JFK if I was visiting Long Island instead of Manhattan. For international flights, I generally prefer Newark over JFK as well, but that has to do more with my air carrier preference than quality.

renting a car doesn't come up as a suggestion. I take it NYC is not a car renting city.
Another vote for LaGuardia. You can take the M60 bus for $1.50 right out of the terminal and it will drop you off on the upper west side (108th st/broadway)
