NYC where to begin

Just got an opportunity to go with my family to NYC over Christmas holidays if we can plan something affordable...rooms in the $100-$150 range?

I lived there as a child and have wonderful memories but I don't have a clue what it's like now.

What areas should I start looking for a hotel in? We'll do the usual tourist stuff.

What areas are good with 11 and 14 year old?

There are a lot of new hotels over on the west side (Broadway / 8th Ave.) in the 50s.....easy walking distance to Times Square, Rockefeller Center and Central Park.

Do some surfing on the web.

There is a possibilty that everything is booked up already. You have to think ahead especially over the holidays.

How large is your family? The reason I ask is that hotel rooms in NYC are notoriously on the small side -- one queen or king sized bed in a room, which will only accommodate 2 people. You very well might need more than 1 hotel room.

There's a Doubletree in the financial district, and I believe those rooms are are actually 2 room suites, with a pull out sleeper sofa.

Check Biddingfortravel.com regarding recent bids for hotels in NYC. You might be able to get into the Grand Hyatt (over Grand Central Terminal) for a bid of $85/night. Sheryl, the administrator will help you formulate a bid if you read the FAQ first and answer all of the questions.

With all the new hotels in town, and travel down a bit, I would think you should be able to find a hotel in the city and in that price range.

Try calling some of the Comfort Inn and the like (800) numbers and go to www.priceline.com and the www.hotels.com for discounted prices.

Over the holidays the city is so beautiful, and there are lights everywhere.

You can walk 5th Ave and skate in Central Park, see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, all the holdiay windows, and enjoy the feeling of the holiday.

Have a great time while you are here.

tweedy

I know it's a little late to make good plans but I don't want to miss this opportunity.

I do need a room for 2 adults and 2 kids and will certainly be checking websites and hotels but I'm puzzled about what areas...most cities have blocks or areas that are better than others.

My mom would have her own room unless we get a 2 bedroom suite.

Broadway/ 8th Ave 50's you mean street # or$50. That seems too cheap for anywhere.
