NYC Weather in Dec.??

I’ll be traveling to NYC from the Caribbean this December and I need to know how will be the weather. Also what is the proper attire for this cold weather (I never been in a cold weather before, so I don’t have the slightest idea)? Finally, where can I buy this kind of close on the net.

Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.
Just returned from New York last night. We are from Florida and unprepared for the cold. First thing we did was head to a store and buy scarves and gloves, couldn't find any to buy at home before we left. To save money, buy them right on the street from one of thousands of street vendors. They are selling all kinds of wool and even cashmere scarves and a wide assortment of gloves cheap. The weather can be anything. We had a wonderful snow flurry last Friday morning. Yesterday the winds were horrible and bitter cold, despite the fact that it was the warmest day we had into the low forties during the day. They were expecting another drop into the below freezing temps today. Be prepared to bundle up, but walking in the city is still great as long as you layer a lot and just ignore the cold. Don't worry about good heavy clothes. People go to the theatre and fancy restaurants bundled up in ski parkas and multi layers of everything imaginable.

The weather can range from warm 50s or so to very cold. Take now for example, yesterday morning it was 50 degrees, today it is 19. Dress in layers, and use hats/earmuffs, scarves and gloves. All of the stores have plenty of these items, and on sale too, for Christmas. Watch Macy's and their one day sales, and watch the newspapers for additional coupons.

You'll want to bundle up! Try Filene's Basement and TJ Maxx. They're in the same building, on 6th Ave. between 17th and 18th Streets, and both have a good selection of coats. You're sure to find something in one of them.

Online, for outerwear try landsend.com or llbean.com. Enjoy your trip!

New York can be very cold, due to the winds between the buildings. Here are some suggestions from the ground up:
Shoes - a lightweight hiking boot with some tread works well on icy streets. Wear some warm socks, or two pair of regular socks.Pants - corduroy works well, as it's quite warm. For very cold days, you might want to wear long underwear! Top: An under shirt, longsleeve shirt, sweater, and a parka or overcoat will keep you warm in even the coldest weather. Gloves of some type. A hat is essential in very cold weather - 50% of your body heat goes out of your head! Of course, you may hit a warm spell, but New York will be fun no matter what the weather. LL Bean and Lands End sell some good winter clothing on the Internet.

Hi Wilfre:
You are in for a bit of cold weather. They weather reports are for cold and snow or cold and freezing rain or cold and windy. In a word, COLD!!
Layers as everyone else has said, long underwear, turtleneck, sweater, coat, hat, gloves, scarf and don't forget your feet. They will get very cold if not properly insulated.
LL Bean is great for all this stuff.
Have a great time in NYC!

You might want to consider purchasing some long underwear in lightweight silk knit. They feel like wearing nothing but keep you quite warm, like a 2nd skin. On the other hand, they aren't too stuffy for when you want to do things indoors where it's heated.
